A Carry Piece for the Mrs. and Son

...I have seen more DRT Stuff with Slower Moving Projectiles Than Souped up Hotrods...

That right there should tell you something. Pop never let us use the hot rods which back then were the 270 and 25-06. For us it was the 30-30, favorite of my eldest brother, the 30-06 for the middle boy, and the 45-70 for me. Pop used whichever he grabbed walking out the door.

Today, I have gotten way over that 45-70. The more I use my 50-70, the less use I have for the small ore brother. If I need something flatter shooting, I grab the 405 WCF. Both hit hard and normally need only one shot.

...It's time to start shopping for a carry piece for the adult son who still lives with us and probably will for a couple more years ... Never been a big fan of 9MM. Would like to go with a smaller cartridge than 45ACP ... Prefer semi-autos, Son has put maybe 200 rounds through the 1911 and has no trouble with the recoil...

I was going to suggest a Browning Hi Power but you want to avoid the 9. How about a 911 in 38 Super? I have no experience with them (only limited experience with any self loader) but folks seem to like them.

My recommendation would be let your son decide what he wants and suggest a 327 Magnum to the Mrs.
