A new M92. Who do I blame?

Ok. Retirement went into the bank. All bills but one minor one paid. Pantry fairly stocked. 3/4 tank of gas and no traveling planed anyway. And the usual reserve for operations here set aside. And there was Money left over.! What happened? Huh? Don't question it you say? Go to the gun shop. You deserve it I hear someone here say. Go get a new gun. It's been too long. Go Dog!

So this Rossi, by Taurus, is hanging amongst many. Ohhh, casehardened frame, crescent buttplate, and nosecap. 20" octagonal barrel. Smooth even grained walnut stock and forearm. Matching grain and color. Deep rich and well polished blueing. And even a nicely crowned muzzle. And its in .357 Mag. So what's the down side? The price tag along with the tax is more than in my wallet. I sigh. Tell the owner I'm short. Love to have it but can't get any extra coin... He smiled and said you were my first gunsmith in my shop. Ya might not do that for me now a days, but I'll pay your tax. Let's get your paperwork done so you can beat the approaching rain.

Well I didn't beat the rain and thus no trigger time, but it's my first new gun in quite a while. And unlike many Rossis I hear horror stories about rough actions, poor fittings, awful triggers and such, it ain't so with this piece. Taurus musta upgraded the QC on the 92's as the one that followed me home is a Winner! Ultra smooth right outta the box and the trigger breaks at an even and crisp 3.6 pounds. And I do mean CRISP! Guys, only thing I'm gonna need to do is sight it in (old style buckhorn and gold beed)..... Oh, and work up a load. Rats! Oh well

But what I wanna know is which one of ya'll was that voice in my head telling me to go buy a new gun? Well at least whoever it was telling me all that stuff did tell me my favorite caliber! Thanks!:D

your the QC dept. for them, so if you find a good one get it.
if it looks rough it is.
7grs of herco [or BE-86] under the lyman 158gr rnfp or the rcbs 30-158 cowboy bullet will shoot to the sights and correspond to about a 3" change with each notch.
I know,,, I took all the fun out of it.:(
it it'll shoot them sized to 358 with no drama.

Aye, you're right! But I knew those voices emanated from here. I felt a presence in The Force.
Obi "Ben" Kinobi. Han "fiver" Solo. "Ian" Chubacca. Jabba "Brad" Hut. Luke "Quicksilver". And Darth "KHornet"...:)

Fiver, don't have any rnfp stuff. Nor any of that powder. However, there's Unique, some A#5 and #9 here. I found a bit of Red Dot too. Bullets.... 357446 (Ideal) 358429 (20 year old Lyman )

But I remember my loading for an older Marlin with the old Keith SWC's with Unique. No matter what it's gonna be fun. :)

unique will do well too.
5-6grs is enough for some fun shooting.
the rifle should feed the swc's okay in the 357 case.
sometimes I have to seat them to the front drive band so they look like a long rimmed 45 acp round.
err 9mm in this case.

I remember in that old Marlin the best shooting load was Winchester 130gr FMJ RN factory (USAF issue) .38Spl.
Best I ever did while I had that weapon was 6gr of Unique with a 160gr Keith SWCHP in a mag case. That same load with a Hi-Tek coated solid at 173gr is tight in my Cimarron model p SAA. Maybe the 92 as well? We'll see. Had brutal weather rip through here and worse just north. If dry tomorrow then I'll begin the load tests. But I WILL ring that 10"x10" iron plate from a hundred standing before I'm done. Box stock with iron sights. ;)

Well, congratulations on the new toy! But it wasn't me who told you. I'm a huge fan of John Browning's designs but detest the M92s and 94s. Henry, '66, and '73s are great, anything else is a BLR or Marlin.

We all hear the voices of gun folks in the past once in a while telling us we just have to have another!

Yes, Sir. Eugene Stoner whispers to me periodically... "but you could use one more AR-15"......

you mean AR-10.:p

I really, really like the model 92 especially with a 20 or 24" barrel.
I probably shoot more rounds per year through one of them than anything else.

Maybe it was. I hope he leaves me alone about it for a while, I want to spend money on other things, like more of those little blue $200 stamps.

Well Ian, I am with AR15's as you are with some lever guns. If one were to give me the most expensive and tricked out "black rifle" I'd trade it for a Sharps or a trapdoor carbine. Got no use for an autoloader varmint gun, but big single shots that burn BP? You bet! Guess that's some of those different strokes things huh?:)

Found some .357mag loaded with 9gr of Blue Dot and some 157gr commercial cast RNFP from Badman Bullets that I forget I had. (I was trying them out)

Loading up 10, I shot a few "test cans" little 8oz ones, at 25yds. Three little cans flew off into the ozone! That's fun! So I picked up my brass and stepped back to 50yds. Fired the remaining seven at a paper target stapled to a box from a kneeling position. When I wandered down to take a look I was happy with the group from a so-so bullet with a load I never used before. Had five more of them and went back to my 100yds line. Fired 5 and hit with 3 on my 10"x10" iron plate standing. Sure those that hit didn't group for diddly squat but I said if I can hit that plate at a hundred standing then the gun's a keeper!
Now to work up a load with my Hi-Tek coated Ideal 357446 SWC'S. Going for simple with Unique. Won't take long.

(Tried a picture here but I don't know what I'm doing with this phone so it likely didn't work )

Yup, saw that, but it's about reducing size. Got that. No problems. What I don't know is how to get em here. I don't do computers well. Shot the last one four times with a. 45-70.
Honestly I don't ever see it happening.

See the upload file button below the dialog box when typing a post? Click that, select the album, then select the photo.
I can do it from my iPhone, the iPad, or a laptop all the same way.
Hell, if fiver can do it then anyone can do it!

Ain't gonna happen guys. But I'm neither surprised nor disappointed. Me and technology are not friendly. ... if I keep at it I'll throw this phone across the room and bounce it off the wall.
