One of my favorite bullets for white tail deer .
I shoot 22 grs. of 2400 with this bullet in my 98 Mauser, 45/70 Siamese Sporter Carbine.
Deadly accurate and a real killer.

Ben

This is the HP Pin that I used today :

Wow, that is one fine rifle!
That bullet sure has a serious look to it. That HP looks large enough you could put a primer in it, for extra expansion

It always hits with a lot of authority.
The 45/70 is 146 yrs. old.
However, for me, it works just as well ( or better ) than
it did 146 yrs. ago for the US Army.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
I had a Sia Mauser in 45/70, a Navy arms conversion I think. Never should have sold it. Wonderful rifle. I have a #1 SMLE conversion now, it's just not as nice or as accurate.

Yes, Erik - - I have about 3 or 4 different HP pins for the mould ..........Yes,. the sprue plate could stand being tightened up some.

Looks like a real thumper. Ben, do you think that would feed in an 1895 Marlin?

I don't know ?
Maybe Waco could step in and shed some light on your question.
I think that Brad also shoots this one in a Marlin ? ?

That bullet feeds fine in my 1895SS. Ben, have you taken deer with that bullet in hollow point form? Has to be devastating.

Mine is a very similar design but from a long past Lee GB. Feed great in my Marlin and has accounted for a couple black bears. Mine is a solid plain base.
24 gr of 2400 is my preferred load with my bullet For general use. For bears I used a reasonably healthy charge of H322 to get 1650 FPS.

Shoots like a dream in a Marlin 1895. 42gr of IMR3031 cuts holes at 50 yards. Mild recoil.

I must be a real sissy. 42 grains of 3031 and a little tuft of Dacron under a 535 Postell in my 13.5 lb 45/90 just about brings tears to my eye after just a few rounds.

I just checked the load of 3031 that ended my day with the 1895, 405 gn.
Two shots. & three grains less powder. :(

Well, that makes me feel a little better. The steel crescent butt plate and shooting from a bench sure doesn't help tame recoil. I'm thinking 2400 is the powder to use for the 45/70. Or 300-grain bullets and a whiff of Unique.

I had my gunsmith put a really nice gummy recoil pad on my 1895. Even off the bench these rounds are cozy. I need to chrony them.

I have shot deer with it as a solid, but not in HP form yet.

Erik Ohlen did the HP work on my mould. I thought that some of you might like to see the different HP pins that Erik provided with my conversion.
