Sorry for the late reply. Just came back from camping with my son and his Boy Scout troop in Yellowstone. Also stopped by Cody and visited the "amazing" firearms museum. Quite an amazing trip!

Thanks again for all of the advice. So far, these are my plans:

- AR15: I am keeping the AR "as is". Good to have a good, working 223 rifle around.

- Mauser: I will remove barrel, cut it to 16.5", reprofile it a little (varmint, heavy weight right now), and send to JES for a dedicated cast-only 358 Win for "heavy" bullets. I will start a separate thread on that project once I get started since I need advice on the specifics/details.

- Savage: Nothing in the short term. Will spend time on the AR10 308 (PSA variant) instead. Once the 308 semi-auto project is done, I will revisit options for the Savage.

It's amazing to see Yellowstone's pools in hues that may not exist anywhere else on Earth. Sounds like a very fun trip.

Quite amazing how well the built-in cameras on our "smart" phones work, right? My wife also commented that some of the photos do look like postcards.

All photos above I took with the "default" settings on my Samsung S10+ cell phone. Among the year-over-year camera improvements, I think the additional quality comes from having 3x separate lenses: wide angle, "normal", and zoom. Having 3x separate lenses seems to help the sensor in delivering a good image :)

not only the camera's but the screen resolution.
the wife handed me her old phone one day to watch a video and the picture was better than on a couple of the TV's we have.

Daughter met her boy 2 wks ago in Cody after his BS camp. Did you see the gyser that was real active this year? Then they met us in RMNP for a week of fun. Got to do some rock crawling in son's rubicon. 4 or so mi. hike of the lakes just about got me. Haven't had the family together for several yrs, our 50th was the excuse. Then they went to Blackhawk for the scenic drive (hw 7), saw the casinos and kept going.
Looked at a pencil 16" barrel to replace the 24" (heavy) tube - 3 1/2# -don't know, new block & HG pushes the $ up a bit.
