Can high caliber; 308, ect Air Guns be shipped freely? By that I mean are they regulated by ATF ? Will USPS ship?

I don't think any airguns are regulated by Federal law. Whether any shipper will carry them is a private business decision. There may be local regs governing ownership.

I believe they are available thru the mail from Midway. The airrifles don’t have the same warning about needing an FFL to rose as the Rem 700 actions they sell.

USPS regulations say that air rifles can be mailed but if they exceed a certain MV they require an 18 year old signature on receipt.

I am not an attorney but that would lead me to believe they can be shipped thru the mail.

You're probably right Paul, however, I have one that needs to be shipped to a private party. I had a run in with local USPS people about shipping a rifle to a Gunsmith (can't mention his name) and was told no. So I found some background info and gave a copy to the Postmistress and after a phone consult with one of her superiors, I was allowed to ship.

Brad; thanks for the info. I don't know of many air guns that shoot <400 fps. All mine are around 900~1200 fps. Guess I'll go back to the Postmistress for round deux.

Long guns can be shipped via the post office by merely filling out Form 1508. If my past experience is any help, you will have to inform the postmaster/mistress and the counter help of their own regulations and duties, because they will likely be ignorant of them.

Gary I mailed mine straight to him USPS.
he mailed it back to me the same way, and I picked it up at the P.O.

Luckily, I live in a "gunny" area; tell them it is a rifle, unloaded with no ammo in package, bolt out or disassembled and mailed Priority Mail with full value of firearm insured. "Shipping papers" i.e. FFL and all paper work taped in separate envelope on outside.

All good info, thanks a bunch. Now to convince the local Postmistress. She didn't much like me handing her USPS's Firearms regs.
