Alliant power pro 2000 MR

Found this powder at the gun shop today (first time out in over a month) and picked up 2 pounds. I was looking for something that would work in the 223 or 308 and it looks like this will work in both but not quite the way I wanted. Seeing loads for heavy bullets in 223 and I was looking for 55gr loads. 150gr bullets in 308 but I don’t have enough brass or bullets to make good use of it.

Wondering if anyone has experience with this powder.

I have a little experience, with .308 win and 180grs Interlock, flat base.

I did a comparative test, MR-2000 vs Vihta N150 vs imr4064. I used new Lapua brass, shot over a chronograph and measured the pressure ring with a micrometer. The rifle was a Howa 1500 with a 18,5in barrel (threaded for suppressor).

The listed max. load from Hornady, is 46,2grs of MR-2000 with this bullet. I got unexpectedly high velocities with MR-2000, with no excessive pressure ring expansion.

MR-2000
-44grs 2600fps
-45grs 2690fps
-46grs 2750fps

IMR 4064
-41grs 2350fps
-42grs 2410fps
-43grs 2470fps
-43,5grs 2490fps
-44grs 2530fps

The velocities I got with MR-2000 were almost a bit scary. I think I would consider 44 grs a sensible max in my gun. Even though I got no signs of overpressure in the highest loads, «there is no such thing as a free launch».

A 180 at 2750 with a 18.5" barrel????? Wow! I get nervous with a 150 at that velocity from a 20" barrel.

I see that powder allot in a couple shops here. Never nought or used. I assumed a 223 powder I have plenty of that.
Too many new powders to keep track.

I got nervous too. What really worried me, was the fact that I got such velocities, within published data, with no other idications of overpressure. If not for the chrony, I would have called it good.
I had the same thing happen with Alliant Power Pistol in 10mm. Faster than their published data with a charge 15% lower. I wonder if it’s an Alliant thing? I didn’t notice any pressure problems or more recoil.
