Almost ready to give up…

I was able to slug the muzzle end with a 200 gr bullet. .427
Spec for 44 mag rifle is .431
so I'd suspect it to be real close to that (no more than ±0.001 off)
If CVA was putting out 44 mag rifle barrels that tight, I think it would be a common topic on the casting forums.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
I am concerned that your slug was not sufficiently large to get a positive impression in the bottom of the grooves. Just because you can see marks from the rifling, does not mean you have completely filled the grooves. I believe you mentioned that you did not have a rod large enough and long enough to give a proper bore slug. When slugging the barrel, the slug must be several thousandths larger that the largest diameter. That usually means you cut off the excess as you drive the slug into the barrel. Anything less and you are probably not getting an accurate impression.
Ayup.

Have you tried neck sizing your chamber fired brass? Try a .433 bullet.............I Star size all four my 44's to that diameter. Marlin, RH, Bulldog and even the S&W 24-3. Never slugged a barrel in my life.

I have the cva scout in BO and had original problems getting it to shoot. First, rail isn't pictinny so had to modify rings. Scope quit (bushnell - worthless warranty). Did just ok with the plastic stock so got a boyd's wood one. Didn't help, well, added weight for recoil. Shot jacketed ok, finally found good loads for cast. Like you, think I finally got the barrel 'broke-in'. Shooting 110 to 185gr, shoots good now. Intended to be a walking gun, I'll go back to the cva stock, drops weight a couple #s and I need that.

I need a break from it. Would be different if my range was out the back door but it’s 10 miles away. It still acts like it’s a mount or scope problem and I haven’t checked the screw length (as suggested) yet but will do that next. I still want to put the 4x Leupold on it too but I have to take it off a 22rf. I’ll get there.

I do appreciate the help and feedback from everyone. Very much appreciated.

Sounds like the gas company may be coming back to “their” well pad and start drilling. They’ve only been gone for 11 years and I finally decided I might as well use it. This will ruin my shooting range and the cabin my daughter and I are building there. So I’m a lot agitated with that stuff and the 44 mag problems wasn’t helping any…

I did find the chamber was cut larger but the bore was right on. Had to go almost .310 to fill the throat.
