Alox 2138F

Along with all the stuff my dad gave me when he started me off on the road to handloading is a small container of Alox 2138F. I really hadn't any use for it other than to make my bench smell just like Dad's (go ahead, call me sentimental).

Then I ran across Ben's thread on Ben's Liquid Lube and it got me thinking... can I make that ol' 2138F into Lee Liquid Alox and then in turn mix that up into some BLL?

If not, is that old can of goo good for anything other than to make my bench smell just like childhood?

Personally, I would keep it for the smell, you'll have a hard time getting more of it. 2138F and 606(F?) aren't quite the same stuff. Some substantiated rumor has it that the 2138F has something like 7% microcrystalline wax added to it. The Liquid Alox pretty much grows on trees.

LOL! I keep an old tube of LEE 50/50 bullet lube around simply for the smell. The smell of it takes me back to my early casting days, and a sense of comfort in my own naietivity from the era. Very nostalgic!

I keep a bottle of Hoppe's #9 for the same reason. Once in a while I spill a few drops on a rag and leave it on my 'smithing bench. It the fragrance blends well with the Sail pipe tobacco I keep in a wooden potpourri box in the gun room, just for the smell because I don't smoke anymore.
