A nice clip from one of my favorite movies. But, I hope people realize that is all Hollywood moonshine. One of the purposes of the movie was to get young men to enlist in the military, so it wasn't realistic. The only movie I every saw that was close to basic training is "Full Metal Jacket". Watch the first half of that, and you will get an idea of what it was really like.

Of course it was . Even in the 80s X1 talked about her 5' nothing DIs hat brim hitting her collar button as he yelled her down for being so tall and unsuitable for bomber duty in the USAF . She was 5'10" ........must have been the 6' of legs ........ When my daughter went to the USN in 06' it was a whole different world . She was ready to be singled out as Seaman Pyle , answer like Seaman Joker and tow the line like Seaman Snowball and she blew through like she was hanging with Bill Murray or Pauly Shore ........ To say she was let down was kind of an understatement and it took some really special folks to get Andy Griffith's "PLO" assignment for a day .....X1 actually witnessed 3 toothbrush parties in 82' .
Really liked "Sgt York" and "To Hell and back" , but I had family in the So Pacific and the trenches of France .

It Really all comes down to the man behind the rifle! Every one can tell you what to do but you need to do it "Your" way!
