Much cheaper to load your own. After fire forming in your gun use the carbide ring only of a Lee .45 Colt factory crimp die to resize the brass.
Use Lee Universal decapper to remove spent primer. Use .303 British shell holder on reformed .303 cases, or 9.3x74R shell holder for those cases, the Magtech all-brass or US military M35 aluminum cases. 3/8" brass drift to push the wads down. If you have an old, old set of RCBS .44 Game Getter Shot dies, you are good to go. Otherwise the .45 ACP shot will work, or make your own crimper by cutting an inch off the bottom of a Lee .308 bullet seater die, using Lyman or RCBS bullet sizer top punch in the top to adjust and position the top card to mid-point of case shoulder then just bump shell against shoulder to roll crimp either 5 in 1 or back it off for the longer .410 cases.

CW I know a guy that waits for federal TSS ammo to go on sale then he buys the big 3-1/2" 12ga. shells packed full like 1-1/2 or 2 oz's. of the stuff.
he cuts the shells down to length, skiives them, and drops the load to like 3/4 of an ounce and re-loads them. saving the extra shot for other hulls.
he says it's cheap enough [when they go on sale] he can toss the powder and wads[and hulls if he doesn't want to do the work] and he still comes out ahead on the shot.

Its gonna be intresti g to see what different "eras" of shotgun do with this new shot.

I have a 1970's Savage Bolt mag fed 410. A early 1950's H&R M48 Both are full choked guns. I also have a Savage 22/410 thats at least that old and full choked 410.

How is this Tungsten on barrels?? I mean is it harsh like steel Was ta old guns? Not super worried about the H&R or Bolt Savage but the 22/410 M24 has some real value. Then Ill compair to this new Stevens 301 built for the Tungsten.

tungsten is hard,,, hard, but it's slightly heavier than lead so you can use up to the same shot size.
most tungsten shot is cut with other stuff.
there was a matrix mix, tin, iron, nickel, tungsten out for a while [I don't know if it's still around] that used the same size as steel pellets but was more effective at distance because of the increased mass.

the TSS works because it's heavy so you can use the smaller shot sizes.
it jostles around in the choke instead of jamming in there shoulder to shoulder like [the larger size] steel does.
that large diameter is what caused the issues in the older tighter choked guns, and the smaller bore sizes.
I think your gonna like the results of using number-8 or number-9 TSS in the older guns.
it is totally contained in the wad so no bore contact [if you do see some add in a tyvek wrap] plus it'll shoot tight patterns that should be pretty damn consistent from shot to shot.

TY!! ♥️

I ordered 3# of 7.5 as its smallest legal for Turkey. Not "only" shooting turkey. Woulda preferred 8 but none in stock.

I found all sizes for 65$ a pound. But I just paid 33$ a pound. Thats better 7.5 will work fine. ;)

RC on contained in shot cup. Ill have the tungsten next week.

CW, try this if you have time or the means to try it. Winchester makes some personal defense loads with round disc instead of balls. You could take undersize balls and swage them to flatten them out to bore diameter. What I was thinking was a 7/8x14 bolt and turn the end of the bolt flat. Then use like Lee 45 cal sizing die punch to use to raise the ball up into the bolt in your press. You could adjust the bolt up and down to get the right diameter you want. i would do them full bore and powder coated.

Winchesters is a buck and ball type load. https://winchester.com/Products/Ammunition/Shotshell/Defender/S410PDX1

Ha ya know I briefly considered as I sat on my couch resizing LR in my hand lee press Last week.

The press does this with such lil effort same with a cast lead ball aughta be east too. As you describe maybe with a .4?? Hole in a scrap steel like a thick washer that JUST fit inside the presses 7/8 bore using a stem matching that .4?? Dia.

Wouldnt be high volume but shouldnt need either...

I even have a box of these shells!
Thanks my friend! Maybe I try something..

bet you'd be surprised at how effective that 7.5 is if a coyote comes wandering past at 40-50yds too.
heavy mass and a small frontal area is kind of a shot gunners wet dream.
it's just the jeazsus H. Christ cost that holds it back.

Im hoping exactly that!!
If 9 = 5... 7.5 = 2 ... Maybe? :headscratch:

I been watching the videos and WOW the energy this shot carries at double distances reg lead. TSS will penetrate 3"+ @ 75/80 yards where lead (three sizes larger) cannot do that @ 50/60!!
Even the 410 @40 with 9.5 penetrates close to 6"! 9 lead was about 3/4-1" @ 40!!!

I dont do jello my self. So not sure how or if even Ill test that. But Ill test patterns!

pellet count on target and penetration is what counts anyway.
if a guy wanted to be clever, a bed of about 1/8oz of lead shot as a base might could help pressure and give a slightly better launch by helping the wad out some too.

Things to try!!!

I just pulled a few 410's out to check constrictions.
Stevens screw in TSS is .385/7
Old Sevens 38A Bold was real tight @ .382/3
H&R 48 open @ .400!!

ALL supposed ta be "FULL"

This Honcho is supposed ta be IC and it measures right at .401. My Win IC choke is also right @ .400.

My last is my chopped Beretta Excelsior and its .412/3. (Chopped from 28-19")

I have a FULL TSS choke coming for the 301 and its supposed to measure .380. Gonna try and grab a mod as I dont have and might make intresting numbers being between all
These.

Interesting to see what I get here...

The choke came in. Its .378/.380 somehow its hard to get actual numbers. But works WELL! Shot at 9/10" ay 50'. With 3" lead today.

Im wondering if anyone knows a source for 410 buck shot data?

Im using lil gun but have many choices.

My manual is so limited ONLY load is two OOO pellets.

that's about all that'll fit in a 2-3/4" hull.
the lyman 4th shot shell manual has none for the 410 the 5th might. [which is probably what you have]

As long as buckshot are of a size to stack in single-file in the casing or inside a plastic shot cup, just load an appropriate powder charge for the weight of shot.

00 buck weigh 55 grains each,
000 buck 71 grains,
.375 ball 80 grains,
.39 ball 90 grains,
.40 ball 96 grains in pure lead

So, a half ounce is 218 grains = three 000 buck, or four 00 buck.

11/16 oz. is 300 grains = five 00 buck, four 000 buck or three .40 cal balls.

Yep, as Outpost75 said. I use Hornady OO buck and they weigh 53 grs. per pellet. So 4x of those weigh 212 grs which is close to 1/2 oz. = 218 grs. I find when I use 15-15.5 grs of W296/H110 the stack is a bit short so I put a thin cork wad (cut with a .30 cal case) in the wad to give it a bit more length so it crimps good. This was what I was shooting earlier when I had the blow through problems with the plastic wads. Since I have proven that card wads under the wad keep that from happening I am planning on using them to prevent the blow through problems and increase my payload length to make the crimp better. I have the wads on the way and should be able to test out loads by the weekend.
