Anybody ever hear of this critter.

Guy advertised a used RCBS .45 Colt taper crimp die. I bought it and just received it, and sure enough, that is exactly what it is. I can find nothing on the internet about this die. Anybody heard of it?

I have an RCBS die, that I bought from RCBS 30 years ago. Even RCBS sales and service never heard of it. Human memory seems to be quite short, at least when it comes to reloading stuff. If, it ain't on somebody's computer, it doesn't exist or so they seem to think.

I haven't heard of such a critter before, but it certainly sounds useful.

BTW....I have used both a RCBS 45 ACP Taper Crimp die and a Redding 45 ACP Profile Crimp die, both adjusted UP in the press for 45 Colt rounds.

lol! back in the day/when I was semi-clueless.... Had a set of 45 ACP dies, and a Ruger BH 45 Colt I customized (cut bbl). And in my cheapness/Army budget/clueless days... 45 is 45, right?!? LOL! I figured the only dif was case length. SO I proceeded to load my 45 Colt with those 45 ACP dies. and that damned revolver (4 3/4" bbl) shot lights out!

I have one too.
I also have one for the 357 Mag, and 45 win mag.
I use the 357 taper crimp die to squeeze my over size powder coated ammo down just enough to chamber in my Dan Wesson revolver.
it seems to like it, and it saves me getting the bullets stuck in the lube sizer.
the 45 colt one is great for seating then crimping SWC's meant for the ACP so I can run them through the lever rifle.

Looking forward to using it on my cast HBWC's seated flush with the case mouth with .45 Colt brass.

My thoughts exactly. I taper-crimp .38 Wadcutters with a .38 Super die. I also used an RCBS .45 ACP roll-crimp die for years on my cast .45 auto ammunition because the 1911s liked it better that way and regardless of internet "expert opinions" it is physically impossible to roll crimp the mouth enough that it won't headspace properly. If MTNgun44 hadn't sent me a Lee taper crimp die I'd still be doing it that way (bonus, the Model 25 eats the same ammunition).

Not with this die, fiver. All it does is crimp. It's not threaded for a seating stem.

I have one I can't remember if it's marked 45 or 45 ACP .
Basically it's just a long taper from about .490 down to .465 I guess . About 2" long and through bored . The only threads are the 7/8-14 on the outside .

That was not a bad plan. Essentially you neck sized those 45 Colt cases. The rest of the case was a good fit for your revolver and so good to great accuracy should be expected.

Yeah, CWLONGSHOT, but for a .45 Colt?
Yup, Thats one of the ones I picked up... I prefer it on a cast bullet.

Not a fan of the Redding taper dies myself, far too shallow a taper and they squish the bullet into a long cone before the mouth gets any semblance of a crimp.

yep,,, just an open top.
couldn't seat in it if I wanted to, unless I used something like a rod and a hammer.

EXACTLY WHY I LIKE IT!!!!!!

Just want to remove the flair and make a better feeding result. I dont really want a crimp in my cast.

Ah, crimping. Lots of ways to do that.

CW has a point, that is my goal with autopistol ammo--straighten out the mouth flare AND NO FURTHER. Revolver ammo benefits from a roll crimp, though that can be overdone. This could explode into a thread all its own, and that is not my goal--but the subject is easily misunderstood, and peoples' experiences vary. Now, ya want MADNESS........25/20, 32/20, 38/40, 44/40--there be MADNESS.
