Anyone run cast through a 338 Federal?

Well so much for not posting much.. A couple of years ago my wife suggested that we both put in for elk. I stumbled across a nice stainless Hawkeye this summer, she liked it and ending up buying it, she finds it more comfortable to shoot than an '06. Just curious if anyone has any hands on experience shooting cast through what many feel is a highly under rated round. I know, I know, the 358 win is more versatile, but I grew up on Elmer Keith, so while much of the shooting world is all a tither the 6.5 CM, non-magnumized 338s are what gets me going.

I shoot a lot of cast in .338/06. The only mold I have is the Lee 220 grain. It’s been a good performer in two rifles. I’d beg to differ on any .35 caliber being more versatile if we’re talikng hunting with jacketed bullets. Cast gives you lots of options with .358-35 Whelan. But I only shoot moderate loads for cheap practice with my .338/06 I believe that lead bullets for elk should start with a .45 and go up from there. Would love to find a .338 Federal to try.

there is no way the 338 federal wouldn't be a good cast bullet round.
225 or so grains pushed along like a 358 win. only with a little more penetration, i see nuthin wrong there.

I shoot a 200 grain flat nose from Accurate from a .338 Winchester original iteration in a 86 lever gun. I'll bet that'd be sweet in a .338 Federal. Need a few sample bullets? I size them .340".

Just too many cool calibers on that case!

I've never tried the 338 Federal, but had a notion to at one point. Seems it would be a neat cast-bullet caliber.
