Anyone use/like Reloder 17?

I have never used the stuff.
I have 3 pounds of it acquired by accident.
About 3 years ago I tacked 3 pounds of Reloder 7 onto an order from Powder Valley.
They sent 3 pounds of RL 17 by mistake.
I never even told them about it.
Figured I would find a use for it.

So, what are your thoughts on this powder?
I have done a bit of searching around and I am not seeing a lot of love for it.

I have some, have not used it much.
I think it was geared towards the SSM cartridges.

I’ve never used RL-17.

I have been doing quite a bit of reading about the 7mm-08. Reloder 17 is a favorite of many 7mm-08 handloader’s. I’ve seen it referred to often. That makes sense because Alliant claims that it has a similar burn rate to IMR 4350.

I have used a full case of H-414 with a cast 165gr in my 30-30. Others have done the same with the various brands of 4350 powders. All have a similar burn range. Would that loading work with RL-17?

I understand it is a lot more temp sensitive than they claim.
most guys I know that tried it didn't like it for various reasons,,,, and then every once in a while someone would hit on a magic combination with the stuff and couldn't buy enough of it to be happy with how much they had.

Thanks for the replies guys.
After seeing that it's burn rate is right there with all the 4350's, I was surprised to not find much love for it.

Joshua, thanks for the tip about 7-08.
I do own a Rem 700 Classic in that caliber.
I'll probably play around with the Reloder 17 in that rifle.

You'd have been better off battling them for what you ordered. Burn it up and have fun, or sell it for three times what you paid for it. Reloder 25 and 19 are both very good, the 17 is too damned specialized, like H110.
