Att. Ian; sawdust bullet "catcher"

Supposedly Richard and John Lee collected bullets for examination by firing into their backyard pool. I have always doubted the water trap for that purpose for cast bullets, especially not having seen any photos of what they recovered.
Pictures were published in Lee's first edition Modern Reloading. Never looked in the second ed.

All I have is the second ed., got it for ten bucks on sale and think I might have gotten screwed. Any idea what velocity/caliber/alloy was?

To elaborate on the feeling the book wasn't worth $10, I have little respect for technical publications which are not peer-reviewed or edited by several different qualified individuals who are NOT the author before publishing. Lyman has also fallen into that category at times.

30/06. Major gas cutting in linotype, and lessen with softer alloy. Also lessened with slower powder than the Red Dot they started with. It was in the chapter on comparing BHn and chamber pressure, IIRC.

I hear ya on the Lee book..... and this coming from someone who'll read volumes for one insty wintsy tid bit of info.... and further,"likes" Lee products....

Bout useless.... sheet,if I'd kept better notes, would've been a better read than most printed works..... and, realistically put me,middle of the pack, slightly above on the whole cast knowledge base. I'm way more on shooter skill base, than knowledge base.

I sat and read the whole LEE herters catalogue.
I know I got something from it [shrug] but.
I did pick up on the pressure to powder drop relationship thing and test that out pretty good though.
