Ben's Red ?

For my handguns I've been using FWFL and have no complaints there. Problem was using it in my Marlin 45-70. I've read and read on the cold barrel lubes and gave the 666+1 a try. Weather was in the 40's and it shot pretty well. Shot more groups this week and temps were in the 60's. Not so good this time. Took 12 shots to get back to center. I know this lube is not good for the warmer temps we see here in SW Louisiana. My plan was to lube and size for hunting with the 666+1. Since temps can swing so much here I'm thinking of making a batch of Ben's Red based on what I've been reading. Thoughts? Thanks!

35 Shooter is the man to talk to.
He had tested Ben's Red " A - Z ".

I live in S. MS. and have the same weather swings as you. I use Ben's Red and have this year been working with Ben's BLL.
I have used Ben's Red from 15* to 105*(112* heat index) and it keeps ALL my cold and clean or fouled bbl. shots in the group from my 35 whelen.

Bll has done the same thing all summer long so this year i'm hunting with BLL lubed bullets.

I will say i usually run a wet patch of ATF oil through the bore after a range trip and then run a dry patch through before shooting or hunting again. First shots will be in the group 1.5" or less @100 yds.(usually much less).

I ran a "cold shot from a fouled bbl." test recently with BLL. So far the first 3 shots were centered and cloverleafed @ 100 yds. for 4 range trips in a row...truth.
If BLL continues to work this well in cold weather tests, i'll be as sold on it as i am Ben's Red!!

Thanks 35 Shooter! I'll be heading up to Yazoo City the week before Christmas to hunt with a good friend. Looks like I'm making some new lube. Low and slow!

Lol low and slow and stir, stir, stir is the ticket when making Ben's Red.

Give the BLL a try too...takes about a minute to make it. It drys overnight to a darn hard finish. I use 3 coats for rifle loads up to 2600 fps., but prefer to shoot at about 2200 fps. for best accuracy in my rifle.
You can apply a new coat about every 2 hrs., then let dry overnight and load.

The ATF oil trick i use after shooting MAY work for you too. Just one wet patch through the bore, take the patch off and pull the rod back out. The next range trip or hunt, one dry patch through the bore before shooting again, take the patch off and pull the rod back out the bore....works like a charm in my rifle.

Made a batch of Bens Red today. Turned out nice. Used my hot plate in my shop. Took some time but I kept the heat down and stirred. Once I find a good container I'll make Bens Liquid Lube also. Want to see how this combo works in my sixguns and rifle.

That's 95% of the battle won, right there !
