Best ever with the #1 .30-06

I'm a fan of it too. I've had a few over the years, never really could warm to any of the rifles, never were trim and graceful like a 7x57 should be to me. Lucked into a nicely sporterized Chilleno a few years ago, not fancy and with considerable finish wear but fits me like a glocve and I have learned to like the cock on closing. It's a lot better cast round than most would think, at least mine is, and certainly a capable deer killer with cast.

That said, the .30-06 is my all time fave and that isn't going to change. Nothing covers as many bases as well and been doing it for so long, it's simply the best.

on the husqvarna m46(94 or 96 mauser) i had to go cock on opening. it was hard for this disabled guy. so i gave to gunsmith and i'm guessing that he had Dayton Traister kit put on it. i had one put on my youngest son's 1916 mauser in 6.5x55(numrich barrel).

i have cock on closing in my 91, 93, 95 mauser and my krag(i think?). my first two favorite calibers can either be the husky m46 in 9.3x57 or the win m94 in 35/30, depends on which day!!! the third is 7x57(any manufacturer).

Yeah, I had the #1 7x57 itch too and scratched it well. I got lucky and had an excellent shooter with no tinkering. This tale will end as do so many in my firearm riddled life. A dear dear, long term, now departed friend wanted it and told me which Grandson he would bequeath it to so I knew it was never coming back. I sold it to him anyway. Sigh.

my favorite 7 mauser is the i built(and my friend, a true gunsmith,RIP) on a 98 mauser fn action years ago. it has a 20" douglas featherweight barrel, timney trigger and a 3-9x swift scope(when they were good) and a bishop stock. it could do 1/2" at 100 yards with 5 shots off a bench. i built it when my oldest was 2yo and i had to test it out hunting!!!!! when he got big enuff(he's 6' 2" now), i gave it to him ( i think he was 17yo?). he kills deer every year and
