Best wife ever! New Win 1892

One of the local woodworkers makes a double sided, roll around, rack for fishing poles...........I picked one up for my "house" cues.

RB Harter requested a few close ups of the octagon/round transition. Seems he has a project rifle in the works!
I took a few measurements too. At breech end it is .855 then there a taper to end of octagon at .795. Beginning round section is .733 tapering to .635. The barrel does have a slight taper but not much. That makes it more elegant than a straight barrel but maintains weight too.

I really like those racks, except for one thing: I prefer storing my two-piece stock rifles/shotguns in the muzzle-down position. What would be really neat is if that company offered optional inserts for the butt pockets that had two or three muzzle pockets in them, and individual thongs to retain each gun separately (magnets wouldn't work for muzzle-down storage). A person could even alternate up/down and maybe have room for more bolt-actions that way.

I was looking at a new Marlin with close up pictures like these today.
I'm fairly certain the Marlin was finished off with some 120 grit sandpaper before bluing on some parts and a flat stainless steel wire brush on others.
the difference is remarkable.

Yes it is. Marlin does save money on fit and finish but it also shows.
You pay for Winchester quality in their lever guns but you do get what you pay for.

I have some 359640 HPs loaded up for it. Now to get a real thaw and head outdoors to shoot. This week is all about wind and freezing rain. Yuck.

it's been stupid cold up here.
the wife stood in the garage walk through door talking to one of the church ladies for about 20 minutes this afternoon.
it's gonna take 3-4 days to get the temp back up to 55-60 in there.

I store a few of my rifles in the muzzle down position and thestandard pocket works fine, as long as you put the muzzle as far forward as allowed. Magnet holders don't come into play.......and they are behind the felt like protectors. They also offer a stretch cord, in place of magnets. Truthfully, you don't really need, either. Rifles wont fall out unless, maybe during an earthquake. Plenty of room for bolt actions to be stored next to each other, in the bigger base diameter models. I'm a lefty, as you are, and have both RH and LH bolts. Only issue is that bolts will touch it you put a LH next to a RH, so I make sure I alternate, with some other action type. BTW, my AR-10 carbine will only fit in the muzzle down position because the forearm is a tad to wide for the upper cutout.

Again, beautiful Model '92 Brad. The half octagon barrel is one more example of the lengths to which Winchester would go, to show that a tool or machine could also be a work of art.

We have been in a cycle lately of snow/freezing rain every other day for a couple weeks. This means shoot indoors or not at all.
Load is the MP 359640 HP, these were Hi-Tek coated and loaded over 12 gr of 2400 in mag brass. I had a thousand WSPM so I used them. Not much else to use them on so why not?
This was shot at 25 yards offhand with the stock sights. Not spectacular but I was pleased.

try those SP mag primers on 5-6 grs of Unique.
I keep a couple K here just for that load with my half jackets in the little lever gun.

I can do that. I think I have another K around somewhere. Lots of Unique too.

Every pop can this side of the Rockies should be afraid.

That load in the wife's new 686 was impressive. It shot well but the muzzle flash was huge. Might be a good load to keep on hand for those days when I'm stuck next to bubba.

you want loud run a 158 on top of some herco.
the max pressure must be right at the cylinder gap, it rivals the 30 carbine revolvers but with more of a high pitch ear ringing sound.

The worst I ever saw was an AMT autoloader in 30 carbine. It was like a flash photo every round.

The primers are pretty dang flat. Not sure I want much powder in there.

Good news is that 40 rounds left zero lead in the bore. A couple wet patches, a couple dry and done. No lube goo makes cleaning fast and easy, about like shooting jacketed.

Beware bad guy if you decided to use that one for self defense.
