Black bear

In 2010 and 2012 I went to Manitoba to hunt black bears. Took the Marlin 1895 with a 460420 PB from a Lee group buy. Load was 46 gr of H322 with a bullet cast pretty soft. I got minimal leading after 20 rounds but not enough to be a concern. Load clocked 1600 fps or so.

This bear was 6 ft 3 in nose to base of tail. He was both good eating and made a nice rug.

Thanks Glen. First trip was for me, the second I took my dad. He got a smallish bear but had a great time.

We got in some real good fishing too.

I need to save some money so I can take my daughter some time soon. Need to let her graduate from college and get a job first.

Nicely done indeed! I hear those Canadian bear hunts can get quite exciting, definitely a job for a hard-hitting levergun.

Did you save any of the fat for cooking or leather conditioning?

Didn't save any fat. That one was a spring bear, it was the wrong time for much fat. The fall bear I shot had little fat too. It was a warm fall and they weren't fettening up much yet. Shot the second one wearing a short sleeved shirt and was still warm.

Nice looking bear Brad. I've never been bear hunting. We have lots of black bears here in western Oregon.
