Carpel Tunnel Surgery

Well Guys,
After many years it finally caught up with me: I have had bouts of it since 1990 but this past year I have not been able to shake it.
Combination of a great productive work year in my studio along with every day chores / reloading/ shooting my dang 1916 Mauser etc!
It has been 11 months of pain at night and numbness in my hands during the day....lead me to testing and then to a consultation with a surgeon!
All the years prior I was able to shake it and repair myself. Now approaching 66 and retirement I have to face the facts that my right had doesn't work well and my left one is marginal.
So I'm having surgery on Dec 19th at 8 am & I felt really brave and chose a local anesthetic... This way I'm clear of a bunch of pre testing and if needed can be at work 2 days later! Just hope it is everything they are telling me!

Best wishes for a quick full recovery JW.

Getting old sucks, but beats all known alternatives.

We are all pulling for Jim. Gonna put a hitch in your casting for a bit but getting rid of the pain and numbness will make it all worthwhile.

Been working with it for most of the yesr ( & shot some of my best groups with a numb trigger finger!)
Hope The surgery doesn't screw up my shooting!

You will pull through just fine. My Father had it done a few times. I work with a shop full of welders. Pretty common procedure. Best wishes Jim.

Had that a few years ago. Do what Dr says for recovery, don't rush it. Did not take that long and back to full use.

my dad had it done about 20-25 years back and it took him a little while to get back to normal.
he hasn't complained about it since, so I'm gonna say it worked out for him pretty well.

Wish you the best, Jim. I have a feeling that by Christmas you'll be wondering why you waited so long.

I had this procedure done eighteen months ago on my left hand and then my right hand six months later. I had them done separately so that I could still do work. I got a local for both and it was no problem both operations done in under eight minutes each, in fact I sold a shotgun to the surgeon during the first operation.

The outcome has been truly life changing in what I am able to do now that I couldn't do then, especially as for ten years doctors persistently mis-diagnosed my symptoms as arthritis.

You do have to work at getting your hand operating as normal again, and I still haven't got the strength back I had ten years ago, finger sensitivity is non existent as it takes time for the nerves to repair, the doctor said it will over time it is just that won't live long enough to notice it.

Thank you folks for your words of encouragement!
In a way I'm looking forward to it because every day the issue becomes more of a challenge. I will only be getting my right one done first because it is the worst.
Almost 66 years old and this will be my first operation! So it will be a new experience for me.
