Hhmmm . . . I see, a reminder of the rules is being heavy handed. Ok . . . I guess.

When internet boards become so big, that ad sales etc., become an "income stream" for the owner, moderation takes on a different tone. The big concern is to "keep the numbers up" and folks who might be poking a hornet's nest, are not welcome. No apple cart upsetting allowed and some folks are not allowed near the apple cart, just on principal.

Here, Rick, let me translate for you:

from what I'm seeing here (what people are saying about other sites on this thread), things seem a little heavy handed now days. (at those places).
shtf- common usage wording acronym come on. (reference to something someone said going on somewhere else)
a small complaint about how someone handled a sale is not ban worthy or hardly worth a mods time except to say well it's his sale. (again, something somewhere else that was mentioned on this thread and Fiver remarks is over the top).

I see other forums (other than BOOLITS, to be direct) run that same heavy handed way and it always ends up with a group of crotchety older members complaining about the lack of traffic on the site, and a bunch of new guy's trying to figure out why they got banned.

More translation:

here in this thread Rick. (we see examples of heavy-handed moderation on other sites)

here at this site...(meaning, this is how things are done at ASBC.....
most moderation is a hey stupid I fixed your political post for ya knock it off.
or a post in a thread saying hey we are getting close to the edge of this being political/not family friendly etc.
the membership is responsive and moves on.
it isn't a big drawn out discussion where tempers get flared up, just a reminder that we ain't here for that.

Zilch. But bullet casters by and large tend to wear both on their sleeves and are an easily excitable sort.

Politcs like quail hunting is a very fine sport, but not to be taken seriously. It not an ultimate issue, but much like arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. Matters of faith however, deal with ultimate issues and are worthy of being taken with utmost concern.

The lack of tonal and facial expressions are the reasons why I spend a considerable amount of time editing my posts, and why I do not do that texting thing.

This forum has almost exclusively been the home to fine people who follow a few simple rules and behave like gentlemen.
Charles is absolutely correct, when the forum was being discussed it was agreed by all that political and religious discussions were by nature potentially divisive. Being of a generally non firearm related topic and having potential to see much discord it was decided that they would not be allowed.
I am quite pleased to say that moderation has been required in moderation due to the class of individuals we have here.

My hat is off to you gentlemen, you have made this forum what it was hoped to be.

Other than this forum, I've been a member of only two others. I quit the last one because of intolerant and increasingly stupid members, and the first because of a despotic, egotistical and belittling moderator.

I doff my hat to Brad and the other site originators, and to the moderators.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
I don't really see the need to limit talk of politics (definitely gun related) or religion ( to each his own, just be respectful) anywhere. But, in someones else house, I try to follow the rules. The problem at some other sites, including THAT one, is that justice is anything but equally applied and when $$$ starts becoming an issue of import, things get even worse. One site I frequent the owners make no bones about the income stream. They discuss almost everything and it can get...spirited. They discussed changing things some time back and decided to leave well enough alone. But again, that's someone elses house, so to speak.

I'll tell you what has caused me to leave several sites- sex. If I have to switch screens when my wife or kids are nearby, it's not the place for me to be. Back when I was modding at another site one of the members wives joined and decided to start posting racy pics of herself. Not porn, but way too much flesh and suggestive content. Boys being boys, unpleasant, unwise things were said. She continued posting the pics. I tried diplomatically pointing out that sooner or later someone would cross the lines of good taste and humor to no avail. Finally just told her to stop- period. I still can't fathom what she was thinking. Trying to fill a need the ego demanded?

Just a show boat .

I care less and less about politics but have my moments .........

Seems to me that there were a few threads during the long winter of 16-17' that were dumped , something about women and rifle stocks having similar description words , redheads and kryptonite , and a jokes of my youth earning repremands all around someplace right around Italian snow tires .

I'd apologize for the Italian snow tires but the vast majority of us lived through the era of Redd Fox and Richard Pryer selling out as quick in SLC as Oakland . I'm pretty sure George Carlin sold out mixed shows too . Sure it's degrading but there were just as many slov jokes as black/white face and we laughed at drag skits , Geraldine ring any bells .

I had early interactions that were the result of me reading following the instructions and having bad , bad results . I then followed up with a minutia detail post to clear up what at the time I considered a clear post after being directed to the stickies in 16-17 replies I had 1 gentleman help me , with his help and frankly a detail post that drowned out the point of my search in my mind we got it resovled .
It shouldn't be like that . It's not here but the vast majority of us have been around the block enough to know that with all done right you might still get a leaded barrel because that needs something out of balance fat ,skinny , hard , soft , greasy , dry or just plain old not gonna happen .

The roof-mounted and remotely controlled Vulcan is locked and loaded and Claymore tripwires are strung. I dare a Halloweening gutter snipe to make it through to the front door.

Go to respect a man who uses gutter snipe as a moniker for our scrofulous street urchins.

Scrofulous. Learned a new word and like its more than apt application to a seemingly majority of modern youths.
