Fiver, thanks for the tip. Between boxes of brass, cast bullets and other assorted items just might have to sacrifice the two sheets of 3/4" plywood. Heating coil in the oven went poof the other day and our dishwasher decided to start leaking. Found the leak, plumber couldn't fix it as it was part of the plastic ring near the heating element. Xan't decide to either fix the dish washer or replace. Even money cheaper to fix. Stuff never ends. Frank

yeeeeah.
it seems to dump 2-3 appliances at a time here too.

water heaters are every three years no matter how high the salt setting is.
i got flushing cleaning and rebuilding them down to a science, and i can swap the new one in in like 10 minutes.
dragging the old one out takes two men and a mule though.

oven heating coils are a super simple swap, 2 screws in and out.
i just done Littlegirls a couple months back.
then come home to our ovens computer trying to light itself on fire and had to replace it.
no winning.

Frank, FWIW, if you're buying appliances at Lowes, we've pretty much gone to always getting the extended warranty. It's saved our bacon a couple times already. Worth looking into and doing the math on IMO. Just be advised the service is slower than death, at least for us. But appliance repair shops are few and far between these days.

Fiver, we just replaced the water heater in our house. Old one was just starting to leak a little. I did replace the pressure release valve years ago when it was leaking.
Old one was installed in 1995. I figure after 27 years we got our moneys worth.

Been in this new house for ten years. The eighty gallon leased electric Marathon water heater has been replaced twice for leakage............on the third one, currently. Just had it replaced, last week. Didn't cost me a dime. Cost for the tank is over $1000, not counting installation. Normally, I wouldn't lease anything but at my advanced age, I didn't want to have to replace one that large.

i got my BIL to swap out the one in my sisters place, it was there when mom and dad bought the house in 76.
i think she still has the sunbeam brand refrigerator my Uncle bought when he was a salesman for them back in the earlier than that 70's.

There are people out there, guys mostly it seems, that have web pages dedicated to the ancient appliances they still have running. That Sunbeam fridge would fit right in. The number old IHC (International Harvester Co) freezers still chugging away at 65-70 years old is amazing!

we had a pre-depression era fridge unit that made it past 2010.
it was left behind at the FIL's place so i could keep soda and beer in it for when i was over doing whatever his newest project was that week.
it finally bit the dust, i highly suspect it was something simple but never got the chance to look at it before he hauled it off for scrap metal.

Is it possible you get your electric from an electric cooperative? We lease water heaters from the cooperative i work for. The made in Wisconsin marathons were good tanks. Rheem moved them to Alabama and they haven’t been the same since. We stopped installing them, for a tank with a lifetime warranty against leaks, too many of them now get leaks too soon.
