Lyman 358429 HP. I have long appreciated the 358429. I have a two cavity and its cast many many bullets for me. In a Carbine the 170 is about the perfect size & weight Its able to hit top velocity aNd deliver about the best On target energy.

This bullet is cast today in 20:1 alloy. A alloy I prefer for my HP in hand guns. As it preforms very well for me at 1200 fps.

I powder coated all cast in 1/3's. Some Red some white and some Blue. 'MERICA!!

I have the 358439 and like it, except that it is a single cavity which is the only way Lyman made them. Who HP’d your two cavity mold?

I use a 1cav #358439, cast with a Dipper using 20:1 alloy. Don't use them anymore as CA. doesn't allow lead for hunting even small game, for years. It does cast great bullets though.

And the solid#358429 are really great in My Marlin 1894 too.

What I did so far today is cast a few bullets, Lee 459-500-3R to be precise.. Going to powder coat and load them in my 458 x 2 American. They drop at .460 and weight is 484 grains. So I'll put them in front of IMR4198.

This mould wanted to run on the hot side. Hopefully will do some shooting tomorrow.

Coated with Smokes clear, first time with this powder. Like it, slick and smooth.

After coating they measured .463, will size 10 at .459 and 10 at .460 and see how they work. They feed well, so far.

My first/orig mold in this was a two cav. Solid.
This is a single cav with a pin on that bulbus knob. Probably just like yours. Sorry for the confusion.

CW & Strawhat,

I figure I'm fond of that bullet. I have a 2cav & a 4cav, both drop .3595-.360 with #2/COWW alloyed 50/50.

I shoot a lot of them loaded to .38Spl .38-44 Loads for My old Colt Official Police & S&W M27.
Less then a magnum, but more than a special. Easier on my arthritic hands.

John,

Very Nice Bullets.

I like the looks of those bullets very much. What brand of powder coat is that? And, where can I get some? Thanks in advance! Harles

There is a lot to like about Mr. Keith's SWCs. My example of #358429 is an odd one--the front and center drive bands are of equal and proper thickness, but the base band is only 2/3 the thickness of the forward two. It sizes OK, falls out at .359"+, but it just isn't RIGHT. It shoots OK, too. Yeah, yeah--First World Problem. I might have Accurate make me up a PROPER KEITH 38 SWC one day soon. The present variant weighs 163 grains in 92/6/2.
