CH-4D die

I just got off the phone with Ch-4D www.ch4d.com. I'm setting up a Schuetzen rifle on a Ruger No. 3 in the ever-popular cartridge of 32-30 Remington-Hepburn, and needed to form cases from 357 Maximum...I know, they'll be about .030" short, but that's ok. A sizing die in this caliber, from inventory, is costing me just under $70 plus shipping. I should have the die next week, and will be shooting it soon with one of several plain based .308" bullets I cast for in the 170 to 210 gr. range. The rifle is presently chambered for .30/32-20, and does well enough, but the slightly larger capacity case and tougher brass should help in the long run. I'll probably convert my breech seater to the new case, but I may try fixed ammo down the road.

Sounds like it is close to a 30 Maximum. 357 Maximum necked down to 30 caliber with a 1/4" long neck and a 40 degree shoulder.

Got my die the other day, and converted 95 cases with the loss of three, even with annealing. I just got done recutting the chamber from 32-20 WCF to 32-30 Remington Hepburn, the only sign that anything has been done is that the rim recess has a .004" step in it from the thicker rim of the 32-20 chamber. I'll get the rifle back together tomorrow and if the weather cooperates, will get to the range this week and start working up loads. Will also try for some photos...I'm electronically challenged, so we'll see!

fiver, I went to a 32-30 Remington Hepburn from a 32-20 WCF. The 32-30 is made from 357 Maximum, which has thinner rims (.060") than the 32-20 at .065", therefore, I have a very shallow step in the rim recess of my barrel with it set up for minimum headspace.

Yep, exactly so. Amazing how many times the same cartridge gets invented by different
folks.

I was on another site and one of the guy's there come in huffin and puffin over some new round he found in france or Belgium, anyway it was launching a 30 cal pistol bullet weighing like 80 grs at around 1500 fps from a 6" barrel.
he was all hot to trot to get one and some ammo ordered somehow.
I congratulated him on finding a short case, light bullet, higher pressure 30 carbine round.
