Custom .45 Colt 310gr mold

Ian made this some time ago. There is a thread somewhere on the making of this mold. I traded into it and couldn’t be happier. I’m loading up my first test rounds for my “Evil Roy” 1873 SAA clone and my brothers Henry Big Boy.
5.6gr Unique is my start point. Bullets are sized to .452” and lubed with Lars 2500+85848585

Cool, I'm glad that you're getting some use out of it. That's the prototype for the AM45-297G, and it was about 300 grains on the first cut. Unfortunately it had a bad taper due to tool flex and I had to re-cut it, in the process it became something like .456" and gsined another ten grains. That's my universal thumper bullet for all my leverguns, single shots, and revolvers.

My Henry and Ruger New Vaquero especially like that bullet. I look forward to a range report.

Ian. Mine cast out at 309-310gr and drop at .456"
They easily size down to .452"
They feed like butter in my brothers Henry and fit well in my SAA clone.
Looking forward to shooting some. Thanks again.

At large, whereabouts unknown.
In the thumbnail pics they look a lot like the old SSK big game bullet, but when I blow them up I see a lot of differences. I really like the lines of that one Ian, it looks like it would tuck nicely into the chambers of a SAA or clone. Neat!

Nice. Does the same for me and comes in right at SAAMI max length when crimped in the groove. It's about as much bullet as one can stuff in a .45 Colt case and have feed and chamber in every type of gun.

Here's the AM45-297G next to Walter's 45-310. I don't seem to have any unsized examples of the one I recut handy but before sizing the nose profile was more like what I was after.

I had Tom shorten the nose just a bit because the prototype was at the absolute limit on length for my Henry and the slightest hitch in OAL made it scrape the receiver when lifting.
