Okay guys. Let's talk about your favorite custom grip maker. Thinking I might dress up a handgun or two. Links to the website would be much appreciated.

Depending on the handgun you want to get new grips for......

My 1911 and SW Model 25 look very nice with grips from here.

All of my shooting revolvers wear custom stocks with very few exceptions. Most have Magna style stocks and grip adapters. My stocks are built by Pat Grashorn or myself. I tend to favor antler of some type.

I have no single favorite grip maker, so for single-actions my two top guys are:
https://www.lonestarcustomgrips.com/grips-for-sale.html
https://www.skgrips.com/

DA Revolvers:
https://www.blu-magnum.com/
https://www.geminicustoms.com/exotic-wood-revolver-grips/
http://www.herrettstocks.com/

True custom grips are made with the gun present. To get the tightest fits, it is usually necessary to sand the grip blanks right up to the grip frame, which makes it necessary to refinish the grip frame or entire frame. This is why custom grips are normally fitted before the gun itself is finished. I went through this with a set of grips for a friends 3 screw Blackhawk. It had recently been nickel plated, so sanding on the grip frame was out of the question. Scott Kolar fit a nice set of marble cake walnut panels to it as close as possible without damaging the finish. His workmanship and patience with this project puts him in my top two SA grip makers.

Be advised that Herrett's has not updated their website price list, or anything else, since 2004! When I called two years ago about a set that was listed at $122.00, the price quoted was $350 with a two year wait. FWIW

I will be ZERO help at all when it comes to nice-looking grip sets. Pachmayr and Hogue neoprene grips might be the only aftermarket item for revolvers that are uglier than a Glock pistol.......but like the Glock they are quite capable and useful. Most of my rolling sideiron wears neoprene grip sets. They probably saved my life not quite 40 years ago.......the sort of favor you don't dismiss lightly.

I'm in the same camp as CZ93x62, for working guns, particularly full size DA revolvers, Pachmayr's are the norm for me. Generally that means a Pachmayr Gripper.
For snubnose revolvers I like Eagle "Secret Service" grips (essentially a boot grip style). Eagle grips aren't really "custom" grips but rather more akin to semi-custom. I do have some Craig Spegel boot grips and they are beautiful.

And I'm a big fan of Tyler "T" Grip Adaptors. The Tyler grip adaptor allows you to improve the grip without adding bulk.

When it comes to semi-auto pistols, I just don't see a need to change the factory panels. Most of mine still wear their original plastic or wood panels.

On my DA Revolvers I like Hogue wood grips. Rubber on a couple too.
On my SA revolvers I like stag and blk pearl. Stag has really blown up in costs. There are some nice looking faux stag around. But they almost run ya 100$ For “100% real imitation” stag :)

I have one set of ivory. It stays in its box!! I have a faux set on the gun. Just bought a set of Eagle faux ivory for the Bisley 327. They are OK for fit look real good from couple Feet away.

I like and use Eagle Gun-Fighter grips on my single-actions
I have smaller hands and the gun-fighter grips make a significant improvement for me
That make fatter gun-fighters grips if you have longer hands as well
Eagle is not custom, so I apologize for the thread drift, just very happy with them
Use the Rosewood grips

Hunting handguns get rubber grips.................not as cold during the winter months. Dislike Hogue's, prefer Uncle Mike's, now discontinued. Pac's are second choice.

Have used both Ajax and Eagle stags. I forget which are on the ROA. Other brand was bought for the Python.............not currently on the gun..............quite a bit smaller than the standard Colt Walnut Target grip. They are sized to fit Cindy, better than me.

These are custom and so old that I can' t recall the manufacturer, let alone the wood type.

Osage orange off Esty...............IIRC, the guy is a furniture maker in Missouri.

CC revolvers usually get CT laser grips. The SS model 60 grips I made myself, out of black and yellow micarta fashioned after the discontinued Bianchi rubber grips that turned an exposed hammer into a shrouded hammer.

SKgrips does really nice work for the S&W revolvers. Lonestar for the single actions although they state they are not taking orders. For any Ruger single action if you want true custom fit you will have to send in your grip frame. No two are the same and that can be a fit problem. That's why the grips supplied sometimes fit pretty bad. The guy I used for several Bisley grip frames seems to have quit or worse. I tried contacting him awhile back and never got a response. Chigs seems to make some nice handles also. He will fit to frame I do believe. I really need to learn to make my own.

Thanks Ric, I haven't ordered from them for a few years now.

He does seem to have a little stock on hand, if anything there interests you. He had a sale going around January to clear some of his stock out, so it may be a bit picked over by now.

If you don't mind sending in your grip frame and also having it refinished, Linebaugh offers grips too (assuming single-action).

I got a set of Culina's recently for my Smith & Wesson model 58. Very happy with them and they are right there in Springfield OR. Turnaround time was a month to six weeks.

don't throw stuff at me.
the closest I have ever come to a set of custom grips is some pachmeyers from the bubble pack, and some grip tape on a couple of the Rugers.

Handgun grips is the only thing connecting your handgun to planet earth via your hand. I have gone through many grips, some off the shelf and some custom made. I won't pick a favorite maker, but I do prefer good walnut or mesquite.
