Has anyone attempted this conversion? I love my old Spanish Mauser but it is starting to take a toll on my right hand wrist . Would love for it to be cock on opening

I can't help you Jim.
I've always farmed out projects like that to my gunsmith in Golden , CO.

If you're able to shoot enough to wear out your wrist......................................Congratulations!

I'm no help on the kit, either.

Never thought of it that way;)
I do shoot this one every week or so and 60 to 75 rounds each time
Been trying to nurse a bad case of carpel tunnel I developed about 6 months ago in my right hand . Every time I think I have it under control I shoot this one and it comes right back. I can tell when I operate the bolt it isn't enjoyable to my wrist.
That is the only I dislike about the rifle .
I found this item on line and thought it may be worth a try

I checked Brownells this morning and they were out of stock. Probably available elsewhere.

Carpel tunnel syndrome is no fun, btdt when I worked production at Boeing. Broke every glass in the kitchen, one at a time, from getting an ice pick through the wrist picking them up off the cabinet shelf. I have to wonder if cocking on opening wouldn't actually be worse?

Cock on opening might be easier. Lifting the bolt handle can be done with any part of the hand. Once the handle is fully up it is just a matter of sliding the bolt rearward. Little wrist rotation required. Cock on closing requires a strong forward push then a rotation which pretty much dictates a twisting action of the wrist.

I had one on a Swedish 94 Carbine - which is why I was able to afford a Swedish 94. The work did not appear to be a clumsy job, but it was not as smooth as the 98s. If I remember correctly, the bolt has to be modified with a "V" cut at the rear like on the 98s. This alters that part of the gun permanently, but you can reinstall the old parts and it still works as originally intended. There was also a trigger safety installed but I don't recall if the conversion prevents the use of the military safety or if that was just another "improvement" on the previous owner's part.

My only problem with it was that the surfaces of the cut at the back of the bolt, one side of which becomes a camming surface, is no longer hardened and begins to gall and wear and get balky after a while. I did not have long to consider whether or how to reharden the area because I reinstalled the old parts and used it that way. Also, someone offered me a bunch more money for it than I paid, in spite of the modification. All else was original and very, very clean, all matching.

just a thought.
maybe a little 5-6" cheater bar you can slip over the bolt would help?

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
I think Brownells "Gunsmiths Kinks" may have an article or 2 on doing them. Which volume I can't help you with, might be a searchable data base out there somewhere? I recall being around the installation of a few of them but not sure if Dad did them or I did or any specifics.

Interesting. Shows the differences in people. I find cocking and primary extraction on opening
to be worse, (harder effort, more load on elbow and wrist) than primary extraction only on opening
and cocking when my whole arm is behind the bolt pushing straight forward to be easier.

Different strokes....

Great! I have both volumes: never even thought of checking them! Thanks

Mr. Filips, I saw your thread while doing a search. I have a Dayton Traister cock on opening kit. Would like for it to have a good home...
