Deer hunting with Ian

Went deer hunting with Ian the other day. Found it strange when he said I didn't need to bring a rifle, just a helmet. Went to a place called Columbus Texas. Those Texans have a strange way of doing things.

At large, whereabouts unknown.
But deer hunting isn't supposed to be "Catch & Release".

I think Ian needs more velocity to make this work out successfully.

He did have a bigger hammer! Dang that hurts though. Hopefully the rider recovers completely - but he will have a great story to tell his GKs.

nobody wants to go hunting with me.
long walks that take in a 2-3-4,000' climb, and nothing to see but trees for 2-3 days at a time.

If it was 1988 (when I was fit enough to do that hike), I'd be right there with you fiver.

She probably doesn't listen to him or carry him+ gear to 4000'. The mule might do some of it.:)

I hiked all day once, from 4500 to 7800', thirteen miles round trip. I was about 30 and running 5Ks at least one a month (and almost always winning my age class) plus training 3-4 days a week, and smoking a pack of Camels every day. It was still hard. Now, 15 trips up an extension ladder or 5-6 miles on relatively flat ground packing a rifle will make me a little stiff and sore for a couple of days. Knees said adios when I was about 38, back has been bad since I bulged L4-5 in my early 20s, can't pick up more than 70 lbs now no matter which way I do it or I get tingly legs, random shooting pain, and numb toes for a few days. Cold makes all that OMG worse. Not slogging through feet of wet snow for miles in arctic temperatures for anything.

Well, fiver I gave this some thought. You probably still need a mule. It could pull double duty. Drag you & gear through the mountain & the wife could use to...
