SAECO 396

SAECO 396-1.jpg

Same bullet as SAECO 399 - 396 plain base, 399 gas check.

Without question the worst bullets I've ever loaded into a revolver due to the two diameter design. See the base band and middle band sized and the front band not touched. They lay in the chamber at an angle with the bullet nose pointed down (not supported in the throat by the front band), when the bullet starts to move the first thing to hit the front of the throat is the leading edge if the middle band and scrapes off pretty fair amounts of lead. These may well work in a rifle chamber but in a revolver they are a disaster.

In fairness to SAECO I doubt these were ever intended as revolver rounds buy hey . . . I had to try.

Im using them sized .356 in the 350 Legend.

So far they are showing promice. The profile is very good for feeding.

I dont see how they can “lay on there sides” Implying thats a bad thing, when over half is proper sized. Are you saying that because there isnt three bands same sized the bullet is not centered when chambered?

Yes exactly. There is of course slop in the chamber or you couldn't chamber them. Without the front band being held centerline of the throat/centerline of the bore it is laying pointed slightly down off center. When the bullet moves forward the first thing to hit the front edge of the revolvers throat is the leading edge of the middle driving band. It then shaves lead off the band as it's forced up and into the throat.

By far the worst leading of a revolver cylinder I've ever had was with either of these two bullets.

that area at the top of the crimp groove looks like a disaster in the making without any help.

Well I guess Im just not completely understanding but so far for my use its a seems a nice fit as the bastard .355 barrel on these 350 Legends.

They did shoot pretty well in your Legend first time out. Obviously they fit and are supported better than in Rick's revolver.

CW. Your results are the best I've seen with cast so far. Very well done. I have been kinda sorta looking at those RAR rifles in 350. Just kinda neat.

355 and a solid throat is quite a bit different than a revolver.

I was referring to Rick's picture.
look up under that front band and at that long taper coming into it.
that has fail written all over it.
I probably shouldn't even point at it,,, that alone might make it slump over.
