Drill Press Problems

I have a Ryobi bench top drill press that just developed a problem.
When I turn it on, the motor hums and does not turn, but if I manually give the pully quick turn the motor runs perfectly.
Is the capacitor the problem?

Thank you,
Michael

I have a Ryobi also (about 20 years old) but it still kicks off just fine. If it's a brushed motor it's probably the brushes and a burned armature, if it has caps on it (you'll see the stamped covers for them on the sides of the motor case) then the start cap is toast. A-zon is your friend for finding affordable, suitable replacements.

That was my thought, does it even use a capacitor?
Yes, it has a 150 mf capacitor in a plastic housing located on the back of the motor.

Ian,
Mine is about four years old and was working normally, I turned it off to move the piece I was drilling, then it wouldn't start.

There is a local independent electronics parts house I'll try if they are open, if not I'll try Bezos.
