Driveways with no curb cut?

I don't understand the new trend to put in driveways with no curb cut. Just watched a car almost get stuck on one. Quite amusing to this truck guy. Thoughts?

They haven't put curbs on streets here in the desert for at least 40 years. Just a 2 inch lip with shallow angle for the street sweeper.

no curb no gutter.
I graveled part of the city's property so I have a place to park, everyone else just has their lawn up to the edge of the road.

Yessir--curbs, gutters, sidewalks......and city-planted trees (some kind of elm things) that destroy all three plus sewer lines with their invasive roots. Epic fail.

I got bar ditches :p Put in my own culverts and driveways (to county specs, what a circus that was).

Curb, gutters, storm drains.
storm drains flow out onto field across street and when it really rains holy crap is there some water.

If the curb is not cut here it is not a drive. They will ticket you for parking in your front yard. They want the $ for the permit to have it done then to have it inspected. Then added to your property taxes.

Our driveway is graveled but the curb is cut. They tried to tell me that I could not park there as it was not a hard surface. Took it to the city council because there are a lot of in town roads that are gravel. Come to find out t one of the cities maintenance garages was on one of the gravel roads. So I took a bunch of pictures that show all kinds of city cars and trucks and busses park out on the same gravel that is not a hard surface.

They actually sided with me and told the code enforcer to go find something else to do. She was MAD!!! Now everytime I see her I wave. And I make sure she sees me.

Been there, done that. The county specs for driveway tie-ins are minimum six inches of stabilized, compacted base topped with your choice of a) 4" of 3800 PSI reinforced concrete or 2" of hot-mix blacktop. In some instances, depending on use to be determined by the county engineer, the topping can be crushed limestone or decomposed granite.

I met with the engineer and told him I'd be happy to do that if he ripped up the entire length of the county road I was going to tie into and rebuilt it to those same specifications, his choice of topping "depending on use" which is very high and includes five different company's garbage trucks. He studied the pattern on the floor and said well, I think crushed limestone topping on that pile of caliche you got there to cover the culvert will be ok. And so it was.

Thanks for sharing guys.

We were cleaning a home. The houses are 2-300k-ish. It was really a surprise to watch the new car almost get stuck on the new driveway. It was dry but the curb is a good 6-7 inches. Lots of new cars can't make that I guess.

We have a paved parking ordinance in the city. They probably wouldn't like my recycled asphalt drive outback. They don't come up to this end of town much & that's probably a smart plan.

So you live in that part of town.....

Me too, but not in town. Being in the trash 'hood is a good place to hide in plain sight

He lives on the edge of “that” part of town. Me? I am way on the other side of the tracks. Hell, I’m in the ‘burbs.

My little neighborhood is across the street from a new Medical Center and the City Golf Course. Busy in the day, but very quite at night. When I moved there I could walk two block and be in the county and hunt upland birds. Now I have to drive ten minutes. :(

I got a drive way , no curbs , 3 lots from the post office town of 180 I think someone told me . Appearently shooting critters on the porch isn't a problem here .
The mud is creeping on the drive and grass is taking over the turn around so I need another yard or 2 of the shale gravel again .

I would need pavement for a curb. My grass has a nice transition to the gravel I hauled in .

Apparently, shooting critters on the porch isn't a problem here .

Within the first couple of months of relocating to Arkansas, this topic of conversation came up with my neighbor, a deputy in the Sheriff's department. I happened to lean up against the kitchen counter and inadvertently hit the panic button on the key fob remote of my alarm system. Deputy showed up to investigate...........strict policy here, even if I would have called and said it was a false alarm. We got to talking and I found out he lived a couple of properties down from me. I told him that I have been out bow hunting and had seen a couple of yellow labs running loose on my acreage. Asked if he knew who owned them. He did not. Told him I had knocked on a few doors and was unsuccessful in finding the owner. His response was to shoot them if they became a problem. Also said that there is no law in Arkansas forbidding that course of action. I then asked if he knew the owners of a pit bull that occasionally comes down my gravel drive. He said, it's his daughters dog that he was taking care of because she couldn't have it where she lived. He reiterated, shoot it if it's causing trouble.holysheep.gif

That being said, I leave well enough alone, if it doesn't threaten me or mine. However, I do go armed 100% of the time on my property and have no qualms of protecting mine. I have seen other dogs too but give them the benefit of the doubt. I like all kinds of animals and have even passed on several coyotes, I could have easily dispatched. I just opt to take their photograph.
