First, my lovely wife bought me this compact 300blk CVA Scout:

And I finally saved enough to buy this full-size in 35 Whelen (here I removed the factory threaded compensator - note the rifle does come with the the appropriate thread protector - nice touch!):

Now, I should volunteer that I will most likely cut the barrel and re-thread for a suppressor in the 35 Whelen to a more "compact barrel size", probably before I even shot it once :)

Nice "father and son" pair. Stainless and synthetic rifles have really grown on me. Something about them seems tough and utilitarian

Fabulous! You'll love the "click..........thunk" of the single shots.

Wow, nice!
I have actually planned to get a Bergara break-action in 300 BLK, which is the twin of your rifle. I’m waiting for a revision in our norwegian gun laws to take effect, that expands the number of hunting rifles I can own. Should be some time during the autumn.

Regarding barrel lenght of your Whelen. If you plan to shoot full-power loads with heavy bullets, I would suggest you shoot a bit with the original barrel before shortening it. Even with a suppressor, recoil becomes noticable with my 310grs bullets at 2000fps. Not painful, more a shove than a kick. But a lot of..... movement. Scope eye relief is important.

If you plan to shoot mostly 200grs or lighter bullets, short barrel is no problem. If you plan to unleash the full fury of the Whelen, it might be wise to do one step at a time. Shortening the barrel will increase percieved recoil.

Good luck with your nice, new rifles! Please keep us posted, I’m very interested how they work out!

Thanks for the advice - much appreciated. Yes, this will not be a "boomer" of any kind. Not planning to shoot "upper" level loads at all. I will cut the barrel to either 16.5" to a max of 18.5" for sure. Just not sure what length, other than it will not stay the factory "23" as it came to me :)
