Finally got a .40

Depends on if you brought enough gun or not, Popper. You know the one I turned into Swiss cheese that just ran off, then I got three with three shots DRT bang-flop-"stanky leg" the next time I went out....with enough gun. Bill, it ain't that hard to hit a moving target at 100 yards once you get the lead right (kind of a challenge with 1000 fps loads) and have plenty of opportunity to observe hits (that's what AR-15s with 30 round magazines are for).

I like the safety, too. I like my 9 m m Shield so well that I could get used to the full size 40 caliber pistol. I like the 38 40 ballistics and that flat point bullet as well.I had a police trade in Glock22 but it didn't trip my trigger

Only shot one pig on the run . 17 yd stretched out like a greyhound .
Shot with a 454424 , 1000 fps , 24" through from high on the right and just behind the shoulder exiting low on the front of the left . Ran about 20 yd before it piled up in a qt+ of its own blood . Just like you said dead on it's feet .

Hmm. OK "ain't that hard". I'd be willing to try, but I'd admit to it seeming like
a challenge to me, having not done shooting at running game.

454424 at 1000 fps is major pig medicine. Put in the right place and he has no chance.
Sounds like a good shot, to me. Definitely using enough gun there.

The 45 Colt running a 250 grain bullet at 1000 FPS is The Real Deal. I had deep envy for Anaheim PD in the early 1980s and their shop's approval of S&W Model 25-5 for duty carry. One of my less-astute moves, to say "NO" to Anaheim PD and "YES" to Riverside SD in the same week.

FB, since we got you on the witness stand anyway, another question: You built some P-80 "glocks", right? How does the grip angle compare to a 1911? The angle looks to be very much reduced to me, but I wonder how it can feed well if the magazine vs. bore line angle is altered?

Yep. Did the nag 26, turned out good. I had just about every issue Google lists with it but worked them all out.

Did the nag17 next using what I learned. The trigger is less than great but not terrible. All ready to test but remains unfired.

Just recently did the nag 22 it is also untested. Just needs sights. Guna post up the journey/ results when time allows.

I'm convinced the 60$ midway deal last fall were unlabeled seconds, mine required mucho fitting, including the slide rails. They wouldn't be worth the 150 tag to me. I avoided their new pf45 on sale at 130. Just not wanting to pay for being the tester. I'd buy more at 60 or so, overall I'm happy with them.

Eta- the frames almost lay over a 1911 exactly. Think double stack plasty11.o_O

My bet is that the Neb winters aren't quite as nice as the LA basin winters.

A lot of California folks really DO appreciate the nice weather.

40's are pretty popular around our house. I have a full size steel ported Witness, a full size 1911 and compact 1911 and an Astra A100. My 16yo daughter at 5'3" has small hands and likes shooting 1911's, the Witness is a little to much for her hands as well as the Astra.

Me, I am a 10mm fan. I have a pair of MegaStars and Witnesses in 10mm. The MegaStar will not run on SAAMI spec ammo, but boy does it run on IMI Bren ammo and the really old Norma 10mm loads and similar hand loads. It is actually more pleasant to shoot than most 40's and still holds 14+1. Cannot conceal the hand cannon, way to big.

Allen seemed acclimated to working the tap on the furnace of Hades in a wool suit, I can identify with not wanting to deal with real winters.

OK, THAT make me laugh, Ian!

Marie and I are both desert rats. Real winter CAN be found in CA, but it has to be driven to and/or searched for. I largely avoid it, not so much because of the cold and wet, but because other Californians try to sample it at the same time. Snowfall in the major passes (Cajon, Tejon, San Gorgonio, Donner) becomes a mosh pit slam dance conducted with Toyotas on our freeways--Californian driving reflexes once outside city gridlock is to HIT THE GAS AND GO 80 MPH, and such tactics mix poorly with ice and snow. When I was pushing a Holstein (black & white patrol car) in winter weather, I scrupulously avoided I-10 and used secondary/frontage roads to respond to calls-for-service.

I get the impression that Al isn't much for wool suits.
Interstates (any limited access highway) are not good for winter weather. When the
dingalings spin it into a parking lot from crazy land, you want an alternative route.
I, too, learned to stay off the limited access roads in slick weather, if possible.

I put the Apex sear in the M&P 40 just now. Before the trigger showed 6 lbs 9 oz to 7 lbs 0.5 oz.
After it was running about 4 lb 8 oz to 4 lb 11oz. Call it 6.5-7 to start and 4.5-4.6 after,
pretty good, IMO. A very workable trigger on a working handgun.

I need to re-focus my thinking on the S&W self-loaders, in the same manner I did to embrace the Glocks. I am not sure that I can do that--the Sigma-esque trigger on the M&Ps just turns me off, after all the ^%$# my shop's old range staff had to go through to FINALLY get that POS system disqualified from the approval list. Cheap, shoddy copy-catting that diminished S&W in my eyes and in the eyes of many of my fellow trainers. If the Sigma was S&W's Dunkirk, then The Hillary Hole was its Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Never again.

Yes. Still a big fan, still carry a Command normally every day.. But, happened to forget it just now, too many other things going on, very unusual, and the M&P was in the car when I was stopping at McD for dinner. So, round in the chamber, into the waistband and a mag into my pocket. Not my first choice, but WILL do in a pinch. In the McDonald's now checking out the site while I finish dinner.

Meanwhile the 1911 quietly soldiers on...

:headscratch: and that's the reason there is a vast cottage on aftermarket parts for them.o_O Of the 14 handguns that I own, none have aftermarket parts, nor do they need them. Maybe I just not fussy.................of course none are 1911's, either.

There is a vast cottage of aftermarket parts for the 1911 for the same reason there is for all three generations of the smallblock Chevy V8. There's money in it because enthusiasts love to customize and hot-rod a good, basic, reliable machine that's been around for decades and is produced in the millions.

You don't have to like them, but they aren't going anywhere.

The aftermarket part market exists because fools want the stuff not because the 1911 needs it
