Fixing the Marlin "jam"

Many thanks to Brad for the video he posted that encouraged me to fix my 1894 that has been having issues for sometime now. It was pretty much out of commission and has just been sitting in my safe for a few years now.
I wish I would have tackled this problem long ago. It was pretty simple.
Again. A big thanks to Brad for the vid and the confidence to dive in and fix this problem. Here is a video of the replacement of the worn problem carrier.
I hope this will help others in the future.
Walter.

You are very welcome. Glad that I could be of assistance.
Nice video. Your brother does an excellent job on the editing.
Next up a video on fixing the old one?

Very possible. I have access to all kinds of thin steel at work. My brother does all of the wiring on the equipment that leaves the shop. He is super handy with a soldering iron.
I'm sure I can patch up the old carrier as a back up.

Any kind of higher carbon steel will work. I bet the banding used on pallets would work well.
I used a propane torch on mine. I think it took me a few tries to get it right.
I bet you could even weld a little bead there and dress it back down. I don’t weld so I don’t know?

A 336is essentially a round bolt, solid receiver version of the 1894. Insides, assembly, and all are pretty much identical. The 1895and 444are just variants of the 336.
If you can take apart one you can take apart all.

the 375 is just a 336 with a different number too.
my 375 will feed 375 super mag rounds no problem and they are like 1/2' shorter.
won't shoot them worth beans but feeds them like butter.

I wish I had a 375 Win in a Marlin. Passed on one in a Tulsa a few years back. I regret that.

Good video Waco

Here’s the question I have though. Have you been able to get good accuracy out of your 1894 44 mag. That’s one rifle that has given me fits. I always start working with it and end up frustrated, then to the back of the safe it goes.

The only thing that has shot decent in mine is a 240gr bullet Brad sent me that’s no longer made. I do have a new 240gr NOE mold I haven’t cast a bullet with yet I need to try.

I would really like to get mine shooting. It’s one of my favorite rifles to pack around in the woods.

big and hard[er] probably a little bigger than that.
my model 94 win was one of those same no rifling having over size barrels, I ended up just making jacketed bullets of 430 diameter to get it to shoot.
it was easier than looking for or making a 433 mold and a new size die.

I think Will is already using a .432or .433bullet.
I have tried damn near everything in mine to no avail. Maybe I need to get back at it.

A rebarrel is on my mine. Need to get the mill running so I can cut dovetails. And decide I need to actually have the rifle shootable at that expense.

When your done practicing on yours I can send you another one to refine your technique

I think I am getting somewhere with mine. I shot it the other day and seen a drastic improvement. I think one of my rifles biggest problem is the huge chamber. My cases are sooty all the way to the rim even when using maximum loads. Next time around I’m going to not resize the brass at all. A .4325 bullet fits snugly in the neck unsized.

The biggest help so far has been putting all the reloader 7 I can fit under the bullet.

Packing the case full of Reloder 7 works pretty well in .45 Colt rifles, too.

it works n the 38/44-40 cases too.
duplicates BP speeds and pressures if that's what your looking for.

It’s sure not the fastest load Brad but at this point if I can get accuracy I’ll be fine with it.

Either I am missing something or that design is right on the raggedy edge of not
working all the time. The wear I saw in the video looked like just barely enough to
get through the surface finish, not any significant dimensional change. Is there
something that I am missing?

I didn't think the wear was that much either. I could feel a lip with a finger nail. Dunno...
The new carrier seems to have fixed it. Rounds cycle just fine. I'll be shooting it over the next four days. I'll report back how she does.
