Years ago My buddy & I did to Interesting stuff I got a bunch of 30-06 REM-UMC brass which now feeds my mousers.
Also A pile of all brass 12 gauge shells ( we split those up) We ended up with a bunch of odd calibers that we could add to our collections

When I was stationed on Taiwan, there was some damage to a shipment of all brass 12 gage shells. As a result, they sold boxes of 10 ea with double ought buck for $1.00 each. Didn't have much money back then, but bought 10 boxes. They all fired. I traded the empties to someone for something, but cant remember what, but that was well over 50 years ago.

I believe these fit in the old category.
Savage Arms Corporation. Pre-1928 ,it is my understanding that that is when Savage stopped the use/production of the headstamp /ammo.

Anyone here loaded the 45 Government?

One of the old names for 45-70. Done a fair amount of loading for 45 Gov't. Have loaded for trapdoor, BP era model '86 Winchester and early smokeless era model '86. What, besides have we (I) loaded for it, would you like to know. There's a lot I don't know, but what I do know I'm more than happy to share.

As a kid in western N.Y. a friend had an issue Krag, and a whole bunch of 220gr. FMJ bullets from around the early 1900's. They all went bang. Of course that was over 60 yrs ago.

If that was over 60 years ago then the (30 government) ammo you were shooting was likely no more than 50 to 60 years old. I've shot more than a little, early 20th century 30-40 and 30-06 and never experienced a failure to fire.
Like you, most of those old rounds I shot during the '60s and early '70s.
