I would never waste Peanut Butter on a bullet!
That's sacrilege in my house.
Peanut Butter only gets mixed with strawberry preserves on bread.

If Mazzola works, then I would think that plain Crisco would work as well.

It would appear that we are taking the KISS principle to an extreme here.

Crisco does work on it's own if used appropriately.
my buddy does a lot of BP targets at like 30-50 yards standing.
he uses something like 30grs of powder, a patch,,,, and spit as a lube.

I used Crisco over the ball on BP revolvers when I didn't know any better.
The whole gun became a black, slimy, filthy, gummed up, barely useable disaster very quickly
with that. Later, reading Elmer's book, he mentioned making greased felt wads to go under
the ball, and I tried Wonder Wads. Wow, was THAT a revelation and an improvement.
Just like Elmer said, you can shoot half a day and the gun is pretty clean and does not
start to bind up like with the Crisco.

The Crisco was allegedly there to prevent "chain fire", which seemed strange since the
ball is oversized and a ring of lead is sheared as you seat it, making very tight seal.
Turns out the chain fire problem was caused by oversized #11 caps (the only ones
available in the 60s and 70s) needed to be squished a bit to stay on the #10 size
nipples. So there was a path for flame to the next cap......and THAT will cause a chain
fire, although I have never had one, and use the proper #10 caps for many years.

Beeswax and Crisco lubed many thousands of minis for my rifled musket. And yes Bill, it makes a gooey black mess. It quickly is all over the rifled musket, your hands, and your pants.
But damn was it fun shooting.

Just thought I'd post a note because I was all over lube issues and then suddenly departed. Basically, summer had officially arrived and the terminal relative my wife was caring for passed away. We are out at our summer place and my shooting activities and hence reloading activities have slowed way down. Wilton is 2.5 hours away and so is my loading gear. So, I just wanted those that helped me out with advice and generosity to know that it was not for naught. I'm seriously considering transporting all my reloading gear to the camp and setting it up to continue with the process.

We have a really nice rifle club out here with a 600 yd range. But you can only shoot off the bench because they have had problems with rounds going over the berms and there are now houses downrange. Shooting off the bench is fine, but it limits practicing offhand shooting at extended ranges. And when I was a member there, there was a waiting list. So, we'll see.

Moly doesn’t work well on cast. It does reduce friction but does nothing to stop gas cutting.

with moly coated with carnauba ( I got from Merrill Martin at NECO years ago) I got stellar accuraccy in my 30 BR 40x with the rcbs 180 sp with gascheck.ir was just too much work for me and no more accurate than using standard lube.it did work though
