G/C Wadcutter Mould

I bought a used Accurate , 3 cavity, 130 gr., 38/357 , Gas Checked , Wadcutter mould. I would rate the mould at about 98% condition. The mould is a bit of a novelty item, as we don't see too many wadcutter moulds with a gas check. I have ordered a 6 flute .359 " reamer that I can use to remove the g/c shank. However, I want to shoot some with the g/c installed to see how they shoot.
You know....." If it isn't broke, don't be trying to fix it."

Here it is :

Here they are sized 3575" with Carnuba Blue and an aluminum g/c.

But yes, a GC on a wadcutters is a bit weird.
Hey guys, what happens if we put a device on a bullet designed to help handle higher pressure and velocity even though it is a bullet designed to be fired at low pressure and velocity?

I wonder what this one would do at 1,500 - 1,600 out of my Ruger , 357 Max., # 1 ? ?

I was thinking about 2k fps out of your Max. Should be good for at least the first ten feet.

My guess is someone was trying for maximum velocity in a .38 Special and maximum damage with the WC button for social work.

Ben, I shoot those kind of bullets (not the same exact bullet) from my 38 Super pushed very hard. I free check them, but let me back up some on that. I'm casting a very soft alloy and I'm hollow pointing bullets (not the full wadcutters) in my swage. The results fired into very wet stacked paper is devastating to say the least and all this with no leading in the bore at all.

BTW the 38 Super is the way to go if you want a 38 Special with a full wadcutter in a 1911 platform. A lot easier to get to work and they work much much better then the 38 Specials.

I think the button is just for decoration in this case. Normally, I think it's to keep you from loading the bullet backwards and shooting yourself.

VZerone, are you crimping over the nose like the BE shooters were doing with .38 SPL in the Model 52?

I don't even own a full WC mould? I have a few around I cast from a mould borrowed from Khornet but those are likely 20 years old now.

Ian, no I'm not crimping them like that. FYI the bullet also protrudes from the case more then one who loads for a 9mm Luger. The 38 Super has a longer throat. The 38 Super is one of my favorite cartridges in the 1911.

When I got an old swage from a friend it came with one swage die in 38 caliber and nose punch, along with a corresponding core die, and lo and behold a Lyman 4 cavity full wadcutter mould.

3 dead soft round balls through a lubrisizer make a nifty wadcutter.

I'm swaging a .610 pure lead round ball into a 20 gauge Foster slug for my 20 gauge shotgun with a rifled barrel. Lamar knows all about it as he's been helping me throught the rough spots, but this is for another topic if any of y'all are interested.

I would bet that that little GCWC, at about 10-11 BH,
and driven about 1200-1300 would be an excellent
defense load. Would be putting a hurtin on a bad
hombre!

If you consider some of the "bling" being worn (picture Mr. T), a fast WC out of .38 with GC has some merit. The bullet nose would likely fragment with an HP, and perhaps just bring along a couple links of gold chain with the WC.
