Airborne particulates and precision machine tools are best when kept well separated.

7X12 gearhead horizontal BS is one of our dirtiest machines..... that's how much it gets used. The portaband has a VERY modest say,3x3 inch 10 gauge metal "table" welded to the factory guide. The whole thing pops into a swivel vise near the welding station. 14" Walker Turner vert BS gets used mainly for tubing. All abrasive "chopping" and 98% of gas axe work is done outside. I have a lovely old Cman horizontal BS that I bought for some job? For sale-100$ +shipping.... missing one easy to replace bearing but works fine as is.Plug n play. PM for pics.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
I haven't run into too many machines that are forgiving of my mistakes. It all hurts.

Isn't Brad the one who wrapped his wrist around a 1/2 inch drill motor?

I think if Brad used both a chop saw and a band saw he would opt for the chop saw almost every time. Both tools definitely have their place and uses. Maybe the correct answer here is he should just get both and see which he uses most. What the heck, it's his money and the cost of both a chop saw and band saw combined wouldn't come close to either one of the two tools he already has. :)

might as well get a buffing wheel and a dozen pads too.
if I were making the choice I would look at a cut off saw more than a straight chop saw.
the price is of course much higher, but it's also a lot more flexible in the long run.
