Getting a new cc pistol...

My first shooting experience was with a Browning Hi Power in 40 S&W. As a long time 45acp shooter I definitely noticed the rather snappy recoil with the Browning. Had a recoil spring I probably could have used on my truck. When Louisiana started issuing concealed carry permits I had a Beretta 92FS which is a big bulky handgun. Local gun shop had a Sig P230 in the 40 S&W single stack. Bought it and proceeded to really shoot it often. I used the Win white box 165 grain loading and liked it better than the 185 grain loading. Few years ago Sig decided to cancel the P239 and since magazines are expendable went out and bought a couple spares. Test fired all the magazines and no problems. When I applied for the Louisiana lifetime carry permit I used my old but very reliable West German Sig P6 which has never failed me. That day instead of doing basic number of rounds to qualify we shot over 200 rds. A really enjoyable day for me. The State of Louisiana had waived the license fees for veterans over 70 and having an honorable discharge. Since I qualified on both counts I took a concealed carry course as I had previously had the standard carry which I stupidly had let lapse. So now have the lifetime permit. And the instructor had graciously let me shoot his custom shop M&P 2.0 in 9mm with a red dot optic. Didn't know the 9mm cartridge could shoot that accurate. So bought a M&P 2.0 9mm with the 4.25" barrel. And for a holster I bought a Bravo Concealment kydex IWB which really fits a old fat guy very well. What with the virus all the local shooting ranges have closed for the foreseable future. So my shooting has come to a halt for now. Stay safe. Frank

I'm right hand & left eye. In my youth & Army days I shot long guns lefty. Once out of service I took a liking to bolt rifes & because about all of them were right bolt I forced myself to go right with the rifle & shotgun. I still shoot a bow & pool left handed using my left eye. The sixgun has always been a right hand tool & I use my right eye. I do however have trouble shooting the sixgun with both eyes open.

BBurgsun. Have ya looked at a Glock 36 or. shield45?

I bought a Shield40 the first day I shot one. A number of my studentS routinely return yearly for brush ups to meet regulations and qualifications. One lady showed up few year back with a Shield40 (first gen). We shot it she shot it quite well and wow I was impressed enough to go straight to the gun shop for
My own. Couple years back I decided I wanted a smaller 45 and I looked at bother the 36 and the Shield45. It came down to which I could get first. I liked them both. I shot them both to decide. Im more glock "invested" so actually woulda preferred the Glock... But the Shield came in first so I own that. I AM THRILLED!! I can shoot that shield with Green white box Rem 230 HP into 6" @ 50 yards!! Recoil is VERY manageable. Its a better shooter then my 40. Im a huge 40 fan. But graduated there from the 45 BECAUSE it did 45 Ballistics.

If ya havent decided at least look at a Shield45. I think Ya may like it. My winter carry is a G29 10mm. BEFORE THIS 45, My summer carry was either a G27/G23 or Shield40.

Inside the pants is super comfortable with a good holster. ONLY complaint is the roll pin gets rusty!

I'm happy with my .32 acp auto with a hot load of a Ranch Dog 75 grain FN... Don't have to over kill the bad guy...just kill him! ( so he can't get a lawyer!)

Smith & Wesson hit it out of the ballpark with the Shield series in my opinion. I had a .40 but it shot too low to suit me so I got another 9 because my wife latched her paws on my first one.

I have an XDs in 45, gen 1 and I really love that gun. It is way to big for summer carry as I am short and somewhat round. In my case the Kimber Micro Raptor in 380 and the Springfield 911 in 380 are just perfect. Personally, I do not like 9mm. The recoil of a 9mm, or the slap due to fast powders and my desire to use 147 grain bullets causes the issue. In a Hi-Power they are not bad, but in an SCCY they are horrible! I do like the 40, the recoil impluse is up there, but does not feel like a 9mm. Then there is the 45, could one ask for anything more?
