Gevärsexerciskrut 1

This powder is known as Gevärsexerciskrut 1 or Rifle Practice Powder #1. Now, the reason I did this was because i have pulled down 10,000 of these rounds. Primarily because they were dirt cheap from J&G sales in Prescott AZ and because they were arsenal reloaded from range brass with non-corrosive Berdan primers. This left me with a lifetime supply of primed brass for my Swedish Mauser.

Now, what to do with something in the area of 30-40 pounds of powder.
I wish I would have had the foresight to do that.
I bought lots of the cheap swede blank ammo back in the 90s, before I was a reloader. I flipped it at Gunshows. But I'm sure the profit wasn't anywhere near the value of brass and powder at today's prices.

While out on the lake bed on Saturday morning, I drug out the Chrony and finally shot those additional test rounds using the Swede blank powder and a cast bullet in the '03 Springfield.

13 grains of the Geväesexerciskrut 1 Swedish powder resulted in a very consistent 1350 fps +/- 20. At this point I'm going to keep a large jug of this powder around to use for cast bullet rifle shooting.

Sorry it took me so long to finish my testing but I think I have solid results now.

Oh, I also shot the plastic shade on my chrony  I'm sure the plastic part is cheap to replace.

Which cast bullet?

You know what they say...there are two kinds of Shooting Chrony owner's in this world.
Those who have shot their Chrony, and those who will. ;)

Mikes results match my experience, seems to deliver in about 100fps per grain, give or take a bit. 30-30, 308 and the Swede are what I have fed with it thus far. At 13grs in the '06 there is a lot room to work with there, plus it really does shoot quite well. 140gr cast in the Swede with 17grs behind it squirts out at just under 1800.
As I mentioned in my reply about a year ago, I wish I had purchased more, much more, the batch I bought was $96/4800 rds back in 2020. The supply is all but gone and what is left to be found is boarder line pricey.

Just to put at ease those individuals whose left eye lid is starting to spasm and/or a series of neck twitches, I physically weighed and sighted each charge as I pulled it down. Not once was the powder different or weight vary more that 0.5grs. No funky 7 day old dead mouse smell or dust from the powder that cannot be washed off. When working on loads, it meters and bulks up very well, everything was shoot over a chronograph. Consistent is an under statement, and accuracy right on par often better than other cast bullet loads over the years with other powders.

I one shot one of uprights on my Ohler, a couple of paint stirrers fixed it up and now serve as a constant reminder to pay better attention.

My apologies. They were .310 180 gr with gc.

My post was more about the usability of the powder. I do think I'll dial it in a bit more with this bullet to get the best accuracy now that I know I can use the three gazillion pounds I have!
