Going to make “speed green”

if you just want simple the recipe for 'simple lube' should still be over at boolits too.
you can't mess it up.
you just dump everything together melt it stir it and pour it out to cool.
you can make it in a crock pot or the microwave or a dollar store hot plate, I have even made small single stick batches on a coffee cup heater.

Simple Lube is good stuff just as-is for a 50⁰ temp window...ending at about 95⁰ on the top end. Just don't forget the ammo cooler and ice packs on those 105⁰ range days. I got real sick of that, the funk and general poor performance of NRA 50/50, and booger flyers from unmodified FWFL in cool weather, and set out to make a better mousetrap.

I’ve heard of those same things Ian. Coolers, two diff lubes dep on the season.

I may have to settle for a second best lube here Ian. I don’t think I’m at the place to make a fantastic lube like you came up w Ian. I figured out on my own using a soap naturally is slippery at all temps and doesn’t melt in your suv after forgetting your toiletry bag.

Only reason about asking about speed green it seemed easy enough.

Hypothetically is there anything we can do to improve a simple lube without 350-450 degree napalm and scorching of 14 dollar a lb beeswax.

Not looking for condicending responses and this May come off as pathetic but just asking you all to meet me at maybe what might expand a narrow window to a larger window. I might not achieve -20 to 105 degrees but maybe I can stay in some sort of lane that will offer me something that will work in a good temp window worst case i powder coat in the extreme weathers.

Pennzoil 2 stroke used to be the green one . Burned a lot of 2 stroke oil at 20&25:1 in Sachs Dolmars and Huskies sawing firewood in the 80s . The others we bought tended to be more blue . I think the last season we were just running a qt of 30 wt in 5 gallons of gas and calling it good .

I used basically Darrs lube from 35-95° .
I added more wax and STP .
Darrs
1# parafin
1# Vaseline
2 Tblsp STP engine oil treatment
I went 18 oz , 14 oz , 3 Tblsp as it was too soft above 75° outside .
Works well enough to shoot 1" 2600 fps with a 222 .

Roger, don’t expect any condescending comments. Making lube isn’t for everyone.
Ben does very good work with his lube.
Lots of decent choices out there.

Understand that much of what “we” did when looking at lubes was try to find a lube that gave good accuracy at a wide range of temps. Think of 0-100° F. Many lubes are very good above 50°, like Carnuba Red.

So much depends on what you shoot, how you shoot, and your needs in general.

I have never used LBT Blue Soft but haven’t ever heard bad reports about it either.

The only free lunch you're gonna get with bullet lube is don't use any. Use a jacket instead. Copper, paper, epoxy, polymer, you get the idea.

My dad used to burn penzoil marine in his boat. The cool thing about it was it didn’t smoke a crap ton when you idled for a long time like others. That was a issue when you idled. Sometimes the engine would choke to death and you can tell when it was about to do it because the smoke just got bad. Penzoil didn’t reall do it.

Oh. I understand.

New to the lube thing. Just needs to get it going along just enough. That was the funny thing about alox. I could shoot in 10 degrees w my guns and it would act nearly the same as heatwave. It always frosted my bore the same haha. Carried the bullet down the barrel the same too to the target. Could expect nearly the same accuracy too.

How do you feel about your bens red w temp range Ben. My buddy from Centreville Virginia said he talked to you once and you both shot the bull a little. Said your a very learned man.

Fiver,
I wrote down the Simple Lube recipe a long time ago, but haven't made any. What is its optimum temperature range?
Most of my shooting is done in temperatures that range from the 40s to the 70s.

I'm not fiver but have made and tested his Simple Lube and your stated range is ideal for it.

Cool, man. Thanks, Ian.
Some time back, I had asked the forum for a White Label lube to replace the Jake's concoction that I've been using from the beginning, andyou recommended BAC. I'm almost to the point of having to either buy BAC, or now knowing that it'll work for my needs, make a batch of Simple Lube.

Seems Jake shut down his web-site and sells only on eBay, and I don't do eBay.

Other than the obvious smoke and smell, what is the knock on NRA 50-50 Alox beeswax lube? I have never had any issues that
I could point to the lube with it, but have not exercised it in extreme temps much either.

the calcium in the alox can build up along the edges of the rifling.
it's supposed to do that that's how a seal works, but it will build itself up in higher proportions.

I'm not against using it but I have found to keep the percentage down. [like 15% or less]
in my last recipe change for simple lube I used some alox and I ended up with a lube very close to Felix lube but with a touch more body.
I know I sent some out to somebody but for the life of me don't remember who.

Ian,
The only chance my guns/ammo will ever see 105, is if my shop burnt, or I can indeed, take them with me when I die! I need to be submerged at 80* and 90 is beer in each hand temps.
