Good results with a .45 Caliber Lee 252-SWC mold

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
I there a specific reason for the super crimp? I mean, recoil moving the bullets or trying to get a better burn?

I have had 38/357 Marlin that would feed anything as long as it had a little roll on it , as in 38 flush seated WC . I haven't pushed the Rossi M92' 45 Colts that far but I've had no difficulties with any of the bullets on hand including for a brief time the Lee 452-252 . Even short cases are ok ....... Which reminds me I need to find someone that has a bucket full of that short Hornady brass to make Schofield from .......

I might mention, in my 1894c I expected the Lyman 358429 to be superbly accurate...I found it was terrible with any powder or load that I tried.

Some rifles (and handguns) just don't get along with some bullets. Hard to figure out the wherefores and the whys of it sometimes.

The reason would be both of the examples you've mentioned. Handloader #213 tested the amount of crimp and its effects in 45 colt with slow burning powders, from no crimp to modest and then maximum crimp. From no crimp to modest a gain of 56fps, then from no crimp to maximum a gain of 91fps. Although I haven't tested this myself with a chrono, so I'm basing it purely on the handloader test. I only use this style crimp on heavy loads, most of my shooting is done with a TL 230 tc and 8.5gr of be-86 which I seat and crimp in 1 step.

I never used that heavy a crimp even when shooting the .454Casull. Never had a bullet jump crimp. I gave up on heavy .45 Caliber loads when I sold off My Casull to finance My entry into Cowboy Shooting.

Still that is a heck of a crimp. I found a slightly turned down Lyman M-die and a proper roll crimp was all I ever needed.
