Got my Teslong Endoscope

Got it today and did a look inside the barrel of my -06. Not sure I want to look at any of the rest cause this one looked nasty. Pic of the chamber looked like something was living in there; splotchy with a yellowish to orange in color. Reminded me of Petri dish bacterial cultures. Anyhow, it wiped out with a clean rag. Second pic was 35mm in front of the beginning of the lands. Looks to be carbon, at least I hope that's what it is. At any rate a good cleaning with Ed's Red should help.

Looks like ambergris in the chamber and corrosion etching in the second photo.

Well since there aren't any Whales in these parts, I'll just assume it's gone for now. As to the etching, should I be concerned? Also noticed numbers stamped in the base of the barrel; OE S15 and 30-06. Just found that interesting. Thanks Ian.

The barrel looks better than some of mine. Heavy fire cracking is depressing to look at through the scope. Most of mine are getting some age and wear is to be expected.

you mean copper mold... LOL.

I wouldn't sweat that barrel at all, it's a little glazed but Meh.

I have a list of US Military barrel heat lot codes that may have been a help to collectors. Sorry to have not kept up on your project.

Among the things I've considered buying is a bore scope. Then I think "do I really want to know what my 220 Swifts throat looks like?" and figure probably not.

I felt the same, but it is a great tool and for $49 shipped(Amazon prime) I couldn't pass that up. AND it is a Endoscope; look that up and see what else it'll do.

I've looked down the goozle (trachea, bronchi, and both Lungs) of several of my patients, course that was with a muti thousand dollar piece of kit. Pics produced by this $49 tool is quite good to excellent IMO. My Avatar is of a series of different Laryngoscopes used in the bizz.

I cheated a long time ago and g**gle "image searched" your avatar, Gary, figured it out right quick and figured you were in the biz.

I've been learning cool terms like "left anterior mediastinal" and a host of others lately. Anatomy and cellular biology are VAST fields of study.

The main reason I got a Teslong scope was to see what I am trying to work with and do diagnostics. The continuing reason is to observe any deleterious maintenance practices (for example, leaving a "seasoned" bore dirty for extended periods and seeing if any etching occurred) and to inspect for copper, gas port wear, PC fouling, or any other problems. I also checked my ears really well just because I could :) .
