We had a pair of moose calves at the end of our driveway yesterday. A friend of my wife, took a picture, posted it to my wife on Facebook (who is in KC at my daughters now), and my wife text it to me. All the way to KC and back to find out they were at the end of the driveway!!!

that sounds about right.
I remember sitting at a H.S. basketball game a couple of years back [hmm about 12-13 years back, where does time go?]
Littlegirl was sitting in front of me Texting away on a cell phone she had, I asked her who she was texting and she say's Alex.
well I can see Alex from where I'm sitting, so I'm like why don't you just walk over there and sit by her?
'we're not talking to each other'.
what?
she is mad at me so we ain't talking to each other, I told her sister she cut class the other day when she went over to the quick-stop at lunch time and didn't come back afterwards, then she told her Mom and.

woah, woah, woah. [palm up] just keep on 'not' talking with your thumbs,,, I don't need or want to know.

I gave up trying to understand kids and anyone that spends their day on a smart phone. Tools of Satan IMO.

Don't know about " tool of Satan", but one of the deadliest devices created by man. Cell phones and driving kill more people every year that most things we consider deadly in society.

They're just a tool, like any other tool. Lots of good done with them, lots of bad, too. I can't wait until either A: Use while driving is considered the same offense as DUI, and punished accordingly, or B: Self-driving technology evolves to the point that the operation of motor vehicles is completely disconnected from humans.

Once we have self driving cars there should be no more excuses for drunk driving - and zero tolerance from that point onward.

I can tell you who is not going to have a self driving car.
I'm pretty sure as soon as they become self driving they become self-reporting [of any violations you make while driving them on the 'off mode.']

If we had a good fleet of reliable publicly accessible self-driving cars I would never own another car.

just like in the 5th element.
every time bruce willis done something, his car would notify him of how many points he has left on his license.

Wouldn't be without mine. I can send a photo from the range. I can let my wife know when I will be home. I can follow the forum from wherever I may be.

And it isn't just kids glued to their screens, parents and grandparents aren't any better.

I will never ever own a self-driving car. I love the freedom of driving, and also the joy of a fine
car on a good road in a nice day.
Never could understand the "car as appliance" folks, but there are lots of them out there who enjoy
their car just as much as their can opener or hedge clippers.

Cars, airplanes, guns.....freedom.

I'm still satisfied with my $17.00 Tracfone flip phone. I upgraded from the $9.00 model to get the camera and found out I got a camera worth $8.00. Not very good. Should have stuck with the $9.00 model.

No child under 16 should be allowed a smart phone that isn't capable of being locked and limited and that the parent can monitor in real time and through records. I can't tell you the number of issues I've seen with this and so called parents surprised their 8 year old is viewing porn.

I didn't get ANY kind of cell phone till about 3-4 years ago.Still leave the fancy one I got now home,on purpose haha. Where we ride motorcycles the reception is about 90%,NOT,anyway.Only reason to take it is for pics. One of the boys is a "think tank" physics geek/engineer type.If it wasn't for growing up shooting, sports, adventures down in the woods,he'd be certifiably geek'ish.Anyway,he got drafted right out of college to work on emergancy, first responder communication "stuff"?

I still say it ain't worth a whole lot, deep in the hills N valley's here when the SHTF?But,what do I know.

Bill, the older I get, the more the car/truck becomes an "appliance" as you put it. Now, I admit, I haven't had a car payment since about 1995 or 6. I'm not into taking the horrendous hit a brand new car demands. Last car was a $500.00 auction special I have since put another $250.00 into. Runs great, good gofer car (05 Escape). Before that I did splurg a bit and get a 97 F350 4WD Crew Cab for $4k to replace my 2nd Toyota PU with 300K and severe rust on it. Expensive to run, expensive to fix, great farm truck. My "toy", if I have one is an '83 Jeep CJ8 Scrambler I got for $300 out of Alaska with virtually no rust. If I ever get time, and I may kick off before that happens, I'll have my version of a sports car. Airplanes...yup, always wanted one, to learn to fly, etc. I got used to wanting and not getting many, many years back!

A self driving car? No, never for me. They can't design brakes that work all the time, fuel pumps or wiper motors that don't fail. They've had about 100 years to do that. Self driving cars? They can't give us a simple home computer that doesn't crash trying while we're to read the weather forecast. Think about that!

There are things to fear with technology advances,
an self driving cars would top my list. Some things
are just not quite meant to be IMO.
