GP100 Dimensions for 44 Special

I know that somebody here probably has 4 or 5 of these & I was wondering what you found for throat & bore measurements? Next question is, how many chambers will chamber a 44 mag?

I’m interested too. I have heard horror stories about the early ones. Love me a GP100 and the 44 special would make it even better.

They do generate ... an emotional response that can only be satisfied through ownership. I wonder if dimensions validate utility to justify the purchase?

if they got them the same as the flat tops I'd say for sure yes.
but I like Brad haven't heard anything about them since they first come out.

Cylinder throat, barrel cylinder gap, bore dimension. The stuff that really matters.
The question about how many cylinder will accept a 44 mag case was interesting. I would hope none?

The question is what dimensions.....makes a big diff.

I may be a little weird, but if you can chamber a 44 mag in 1 or 2 of the chambers, yea, that’s certainly not good for me. I’ll accept your 625 conditions you outlined. Besides, if you shoot parachute bullets (PB) your gonna remove the reamer marks in the throats. That opens throats another .001 anyway. So I’d be happy with dead nuts myself. I’ll even accept smaller so I can set it up myself after I slug the bore.

They had a problem with 44 Mag thing for awhile that was finally acknowledged by some smuck-d-smuck executive. Tells me they tested the gun to handle that pressure anyway. Read this on the Ruger forum when I was searching for dimensional info. So nobody here owns one? That's strange. With the …. repertoire battery of fiver, thought he would have at least 2. Being a board leader, I vote he …. broaden his holdings & take one for the team. :)

I think that is a splendid idea. Money would be no problem if he sold his boat.

What a passel of heretics. Boats are IMPORTANT.

I left the 44 Special Cult about 8 years ago. When I want 44 Special/Skeeter's Load peformance (which is about 90% of my 44 caliber shooting) I just put them up in 44 Magnum brass and let drive with them from whatever 44 Magnum graces the safe shelves at that particular time. I have not yet followed suit with the 38 Special/357 Magnum--and probably won't. I DO see a 2" 38 Special coming along later this year, not certain what form that will take.

I do think highly of the 44 Special loaded at 900-1000 FPS with a 240-250 grain cast bullet. The GP-100 and the Blackhawk variants chambered in 44 Special are excellent platforms, from what I have read. My authorizing agency that issues my retirement CCW just had a wrenching change of leadership via the recent election, and I don't yet know what (if any) modifications will be made to the retiree or active duty sidearms specs & regulations. For the past 18 months, the rules have been wide-open. But nothing is as constant as change, so we will see what happens with calibers and systems and the policies that cover them. Another great reason to re-locate to a right-to-carry state and finally complete the divorce from my old shop that started in June 2005 with retirement.

Was one state, Wyoming or some such place just passed a right to carry concealed with no permit at all. Everybody can carry. Here in Arkansas CCW's are pretty easy, FBI background check, safety course and your good. Just today the state passed a law to cut the fee's for CCW in half, for both the initial application and the once every 5 year renewal.

My brother n law lost 2 boats & his house in that last big Texas blow. He lives close to Corpus Christy somewhere on the coast. Town has a name, but I can't remember it right off hand. I don't see any pics from fiver posted here about his new GP100. He must still be at the store.

Here in Arkansas, it's five years if you qualify with a semi.................three years, if you use a revolver. When you qualify with a revolver, you can only carry a revolver. Qualify with a with a semi, you can carry either/or. It's kind of a no brainer to qualify with a semi. Most of the instructors keep a 22 semi, on hand, for those that bring revolvers. Cindy and I just requalified this past Summer...................no savings for us until five years elapses.:sigh:

I'm with the Kalifornian, when it comes to the 44 Special. Having a RH, I can download 44 Mag to Skeeter's loadings. The 44 Special loses it appeal in anything over 21 ounces in weight.................the only reason I own a Bulldog...............it's not a boat anchor.

heh I can't even get to the store to look at a gun.
the closest place that might have one or could order me one is 75 miles away.
I'm having a hard time getting 7 point 5 feet right now.
it hasn't stopped snowing here since Sunday morning.
I don't know what the total is but every time the plow, bulldozer, or road grader comes by it's 3' high and 2' wide across the front of the place.
that pile is starting to look smaller and smaller compared to where I have to throw it every time I go out there with the shovel.

how high is the snow out back you say?
both of my dogs and the Chihuahua 'jumped' over my 6' fence by walking over the snow about 6-7"s below the top of it.

Another "counter" to the 44 Special/Skeeter's Load question is that I can (and often do) carry the rough equivalent of a Skeeter's Load in my SIG P-220 in 45 ACP. Its WWB 230 grain JHPs clock 875-880 FPS from its 4.4" barrel. A close 2nd Place is my Glock 23 and its WWB 180 JHPs at 920-930 FPS/4" barrel. Both rounds are sealed against moisture and petrochemical contamination; my Skeeter's Loads are not. Full up, the SIG holds 8-9 rounds, the Glock holds 13-14 rounds. Sealed ammo and larger capacity before the first refill.....the 44 comes up a little short.
