Great day!

Of all the 30 cal moulds I have and have shot in my 30-06, none have come close to the Lyman 311413. Old, old design, but new to me. Bought it on Fleabay, ran a small batch thru it, reveling at how pretty a bullet it dropped. Didn't even sort for weight...just pan lubed and checked/sized to .309. Loaded them over 30 grains of IMR 3031 (on the low end). Clovers all day long at 100 yards. And the recoil is very low.

Doncha' love it when stuff just works?

Got pictures of that bullet? That's one I don't have and have never used.

Clover leaf's is good. :D

The key is getting a slow start, as there is so much nose that it wants to slump unless the alloy is pretty strong. Chris, I'm really glad you got a good load to start with, as many struggle to get it to shoot well. Congratulations!!

Have a single cav and a single cav HP in the 413. The HP
was done by Buckshot, and believe it was probably the last
one he did before he stopped HP'ing pointed bullets. Will
have to try your load. Never ran them much faster than
1500-1600.

That's about where my load is. I've not chrono'd them yet but that's about what the book said they would be going. I just started at the lowest amount recommended for that powder on both Loaddata.com and the Lyman cast bullet manual.

Hoping to get some time tonight to make up a bunch more of them and try them at some longer ranges next weekend.

Think I will have to break out the 413HP
mold and run up 50 or so of them to try
Chris's load.
