Hat in the ring!

Decided to see if I can work up loads similar to Waco's HV, long range 308 loads, so went and bought an 8 pounder of H4831. Wow what a shock to the wallet! At close to $8.00 a pound in quantity, will be paying close attention to quantities loaded for testing. But at least will have my hat in the ring (Jimmy Doolittle moto, WWI). My goal will not be as long or far as Waco's, as I am interested in getting accuracy only to 300, not 500 yd. Will be starting with NOE 311299, & 311188 Hunter. Plan to load some test loads with either 4831 or 4064. Will prob use starting loads for same bullet weights for Jacketed bullets listed in the latest lyman manual, and start at 100 and work out!.

Would you believe that at 7:00 a.m. today, the 6th of April we had heavy snow coming down, and it was in the 20's. Hit 60 yesterday afternoon. Must be global warming! 75 forcast for middle of next week. Will plan to shoot then!

I agree Jon, if he found 4831 for 64 bucks per 8 pounder I want to know were. I will be buying at least 4 of them.

I bet it was closer to 160-170 per 8 pounder, still 20 bucks a pound.

Re19 at Powder Valley is, on a pound to pound basis, about the same price.

I need to see if the locals want to get together and place a Powder Valley order. Splitting up the hazmat makes sense.

I do group orders from time to time, it's the best way. PV will combine primers and powder for one hazmat and that makes a big difference.

Our rain today was cold and white. Forecast to get more of that Sunday. I blame the damn groundhog. Never did like that marmot.

I feel your pain Brad, I've been waiting two weeks to get out this Saturday and shoot some new test loads for accuracy and chrono data an wouldn't you know it 100% chance of rain today. The weather is always nice when I'm working or have things around the house that need attention, all is not lost as I'll just head over to my buddies house later on this morning and chew the fat and cast up a big batch of bullets for the 45 carbine.

Revisiting my 4831 load with the XCB bullet. Cast by me this time and using different brass. Checked and lubed the bullets weigh in right at 166gr.
give or take a tenth or two.
PPU brass that has already been through the rifle and neck sized only. CCI 200 primers and a ladder from 45.0gr-46.8gr
I'll see where the node is with these 10 rounds and find the flat spot in the velocity and go from there.
