Heads UP!

For each of us, my prediction.

BATF reported 185,000 background checks yesterday. If each one buys one box of ammo the new ammo shortage has already started.

Plus! That is a rate of over 60,000,000 guns per year. That is WAY more than we can manufacture.

Better look to to your powder and primers.

AR-15 parts are selling out everywhere, too.

If everyone on internet reloading forums panics and buys 20K primers and 20 lbs of powder...where will that leave us tomorrow? The "beat the panic" panic is what causes these problems in the first place.

You are both so so right. Every time the administration goes on a gun control rant, the sales of arms, ammo, and components goes sky high!

I'm in good shape. Other than small pistol primers I can easily shoot for a few years on what I have in the house.
I heard that the background checks were running at about one every 2 seconds last Friday. That is a bunch of guns sold.

I can, and have , made do for some years now. I'd like to be a bit better on primers....better stock up while I can. Powder.....I can last a few more years if need be....

The shortages are gonna be back if people decide to get greedy again. Maybe we will be lucky and people will decide they have what they can afford or really need?
That said, I might just pick up 5-10K small pistol primers just in case.

On Fox News this morning they were talking about a possible executive order on gun control in a speech tonight. If he does try that you better order those primers right now, by this time tomorrow you won't find anything. :(

Then I will shoot more 45 ACP and 44 special? Got lots of LPP.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
I pretty much stopped shooting 5 or 6 years back when I saw a box of 50 22lr for $10.00. I wasn't even aware the "shortage" was over since we still can't get 22's and lot of other ammo around here. OTOH, I still have cans and cans of bullets I cast, several ammo cans full of primers and a fridge full of powder. If I ever get time to hoot again....

Sure do wish I could find 22's at a fair price.

Just got a flyer from Natchez Shooters Supply, Federal .223 (which is Lake City, top
notch 55gr FMJ ammo) 1K rds for $339, lowest I have seen in a long time, maybe 8-9 years
for good grade .223/5.56.

Stopped at several Walmarts this Christmas season across the SE USA, all had
lots of centerfire ammo but nary a box of rimfire of any type on the shelf.......
dang! Got some 9mm, Rem FMJ, 100 rds for $23, practice ammo for an occasional
CCW pistol that shows pressure signs with my std 9mm reloads.

Only been in the hobby for a 1 1/2 yrs. So, I missed the worst of the shortages, but it's Obama's last year in office, and who knows he might go crazy. Plus, there is a slight possibility of Hillary getting elected which will only extend the drought, and p!$$ me off.

I was wondering what all the old hands here would recommend for a greenhorn to have stockpiled. Specifically, what is the minimum amount of powder, primers and lead ingots I should have on hand?
I'm shooting a thousand rounds total of 9mm, 38/357, and 40 cal a month. I figure I use 1 primer, 5-ish powder grains and 150-ish lead grains each for most of the rounds I shoot.

Been through two major shortages since the early 90s. My advice is buy today like you'll never get any more tomorrow, because you might not.
