HELLO FROM OHIO

Thought I would introduce myself. I am just an ordinary middle aged man.
I like anything that can get me out of doors. Love hunting, fishing and walks in the woods. Real love reloading and shooting.
Had pulled the lever and smacked the hammer on my uncles presses and dies as a kid and a teen. But never really got into reloading myself until years later.
A couple of years ago I got a notion and bought a Taurus 66, While it was in layaway, I bought a Lee basic .38 special turret loading kit. Thus my trip down the long road of reloading. I have recently played around a bit and cast some range lead into wadcutters , using an iron pot, a turkey fryer base and a lee 145 wad-cutter mold. Measuring the resulting bullets with calipers, remelting the off size and bad ones. Bought some liquid alox and loaded them up behind 3 grains of red dot.
Just purchased a Lee electric pot, have a bit of range lead, pewter, and wheel weights back.
Then I bought a 30-06 and a light bulb came on in my head,"I bet I could cast bullets and make a low velocity load for this too.":headscratch:I asked Fiver for some suggestions as to where to start. As he had been mentoring me for a while. He says you are a good bunch or fellows and I can learn a lot here.
So here I am. Taking the next step, and coming here to learn more about casting. So if I ask a lot of stupid questions please bear with me.
Oh; and I Really, Really love pie. I believe that if someone does not at least like pie then something is wrong with them. I think Adolf Hitler probably hated pie. I believe there is always room and time for a slice of pie.
Thus my girlish figure.[sarcasm]:D

Welcome !!!!!!!

All of us had to start somewhere, just like you're doing now...........
No one starts out as an expert .
I started casting rifle and pistol bullets in about 1969 ( the same time
" Uncle Sam " had great interest in relocating me to S.E. Asia ) .
I couldn't find anyone in my area that knew a single thing about bullet casting.
I had to rely on paper print for information ( obviously no internet back in those days )

Bullet casters today have the luxury of a true wealth of information related to bullet casting and load data for cast bullets. All this is a " mouse click " away.

They also have more bullet mould designs available to them today than I could have imagined back in 1969.

Welcome to the forum ! !
We are here to help you be successful with your new hobby.
It should be a very interesting and a rewarding endeavor for you.
And yes.........I like good pie also !

Gotta welcome a guy that likes pie! I too like pie, fruit pies are fine, pecan and nut pies better, not so much a fan of meringue-ish things. Oh, let's not forget good cheesecake.

Howdy and welcome, Mittie.

Oh, my, pies! The elderly neighbor couple invited me over, the other day, to have at their apple tree and I came home with enough for my wife to make two pies.
My mother made the best pumpkin pie, but unfortunately her recipe is lost. Instead of the traditional dense filling, hers was lighter in texture and color, and was somehow concocted in a double boiler.

Cheesecake is way better than a pie.
Only pies I really get excited about are apple and pumpkin.

Mitty,
I offer a hardy Welcome from Minnesota.
Beware, if you aren't careful, you'll find that "casting your own" isn't just one hobby, but several of them.
besides the obvious, you'll find yourself digging up shooting berms from spent bullets, maybe making your own Gas Checks, making your own lube, and with all these fellows on this forum, you might start machining your own tooling... and reading lots...I've never been much of a reader, but ever since I started casting, I read what seems like an incredible amount.
Good Luck

Pies? I prefer berry,,,raspberry or blueberry, or strawberry-Rhubarb or ...ect

And one big truth, you will never save money doing any of this.

You will shoot more, spend more time doing things like casting, sizing, and loading. You will find people here who are very happy helping spend YOUR $$$$$$.

Your first name wouldn't be Walter, would it?
Welcome to the group. I'm in Medina, Ohio; anywhere near me ?
you'll find yourself digging up shooting berms from spent bullets

Got the nick name at work. Had a peculiar fellow who could not talk well at work, he befriended me, because I would not make fun of him. Pronounced my name Mitty instead of Emmett. He had a brain tumor and has passed since, The name stuck, and I am hoping you know where the 38 came from.;)

Malvern about 50 miles south of you. Usually attend the Medina gun Show.

Just got back from the range at the club with a shovel, screen and half a 5 gallon bucket full of used bullets.:sigh:

Kinda like telling an alcoholic to slow down his drinking a bit then buying him a beer. Not that it isn't appreciated!
