My daughter brought me hers and it's got some damage from case storage . That's a long story , thankfully they're moved out of Ca ....
Anyway it's got some lifted finish on the top of the receiver .
It looks like its zinc vs Aluminum . I mostly just want to get it stopped and cleaned up for the moment . There's nothing on the steel but all the lead residue is all fluffed up too .

She's upset and knows better , care and cleaning but circumstances and stuff .

Advice on the receiver is my focus for the moment . IMG_20200702_214339493~2.jpg

I'd try to strip just the receiver with non-citrus stripper, boil receiver end in distilled water for half an hour, and refinish with Duracoat. Just do the outside unless the innard is shucking it's finish too.

Use stripper safe for aluminum. It's just black paint. Check for a groove top inside the receiver, you can polish it out.

definitely no citric base stripper.
clean it prep it paint it.
don't forget a good primer [and a good wash and scuff of the primer] primer sticks to metal, paint sticks to primer.

The receiver can be buffed to make it a brushed aluminum finish that IMHO looks quite nice. If you don't like how it looks you can repaint it with a glossy black paint. I have a model 60 from 1972 and the finish on the receiver has held up very well.

I don't think it's hurt inside . After some non-abrasive cleaning at it it's not as bad as originally suspected .
