Help me find a new photo hosting site

Photobucket sucks rocks. I know they have to pay their bills on "free" accounts, but the site has become so ad-traffic heavy it cannot even function. An ad window pops up for ever action, my computer was bogging so badly a minute ago that it just about wouldn't load a page here, then I discovered SEVEN photobucket ad windows running videos in the background. SHEESH! It's so bad I'm not about to spend a dime with them to go "ad free". Seems like every time I go to use it (once or twice a month) it is 'down for maintenance', and I've been trying for two hours to upload just one measely photo and it gets to 90% and just sits there....four tries in a row. I'm done. Asking google came up with Flickr and a couple I hadn't heard of that are pretty well rated, what say you guys?

Ian,
I have an ICCAN Name registered "10.95 a year" and a cheap hosting site $13 a year to host my 18th century work I just piggy back off that site to host my images here
But there should be a better free way

imgur.com

Of course, you cannot create a catalog or anything like that as it's strictly meant as a free way to share pictures.

The reality is that unless you want to pay, you're going to make compromises.

I long ago gave up on off computer storage. I keep everything on my computer hard drive. Just don't be afraid to throw things away, they are only important to you. FWIW, Ric

I just joined ( 10 minutes ago ) imgur.com. Pixel size is now set at 480.

I don't mind paying for a valuable service, or viewing some ads as "payment" for a "free" hosting service, I just want something that actually works. I'm not a photo or data or social media addict, in fact I'm really a Luddite (ask Brad), but I DO have 6 MBPS internet with about 2 MBPS upload speed, three computers, two decent digital cameras, and would just like to be able to host a few pictures pretty much exclusively for linking to this forum and not bog our storage down with direct uploads. Some real basic editing capability of the hosting site would be great, too, I just didn't know where to look or who to risk my money with if I end up paying for the convenience of speed and ad-free service.

All the stuff I don't put up for viewing on the internet gets stored in duplicate on two external hard drives. I'll check out imgur, it was one of the top five free sites in a couple of recent polls I found.

Photo size seems fine on my iPad Ben. Your rifle has too many triggers, however?

I usually upload right to the forum from my iPad. Quick and easy.

I use photobucket but I have noticed far more ads lately. What a pain. May need to investigate imgur

Definitely a trigger problem. Two triggers and only one bolt. How's that work??:D

Look at it now, I changed the pixel output to 480.
Size seems more appropriate to me.

Hey, if you don't like one of em', try the other.
Soner or later, you'll find something that is agreeable with you.

My Malwarebytes will often times issue a warning when I go to the PhotoBucket site.

Not good.

iPad shows no change in photo size. Either way, it is a nice size for my screen.

As for triggers, isn't it wasteful to use 2 on one rifle?

No service needed.

I take a pic with the sweet camera on my phone, resize with a free app, & post it. The other site don't even need the size changed. Easy as can be.
Can also download a photo & post it right from my phone. It's so easy.
I never posted pics when I had to use a camera & a computer & wires & time & software. Too much hassle & time.

You can use an older smartphone with the chip removed just for the house. You can use most on your home WiFi without any phone or web service. Might be a good option for some.

I joined imgur too. So far so good.

OK, that's a bit big at 900 wide. I'll try that again.

But we have a large number of flip phone users. You know, Luddites.
I take the photos, most at least, with my phone. Send to iPad, resize, then post directly.
Maybe Ian needs to discover the wonders Steve Jobs bestowed upon us?

Ian,

On Imgur , I went to " Edit Image " , set the pixel at 480 X, then hit Apply & SAVE.

Here is what it looks like at 480 , does this size on your computer screen look OK ?

Both of these photos are grainy. They were low quality when I uploaded them,
not the Host site's problem, it is mine as the orig photos were of very low quality.

One feature I like is I can upload photos directly from my Gmail account .
Uploads don't get any easier than this.

I'm liking it. You could go considerably larger to fill the dialog window, but they're fine as is. I thought 850 was about max to fill the window but some others I just did at that width resolution over-filled the screen slightly. I edited one down to 800 and still too big, I may have to try 700 or smaller.
